Title: sump wont stop leaking Post by tiggerlit on Oct 17th, 2015, 10:24pm hi guys got a pain in the bum problem. car is a 2.3 automatic hubby has just done the head gasket and while doing it drop a nut in the engine thinking it was in the sump he unbolted and tried to see if it was in there. but found it in another part of the engine. so finished off the head and went and put gasket sealent and done the bolts up. but when filling it with oil it leaked from some of the bolts, soput some gunk on them and done them up. but again it leaked. redone all the bolts with new ones and still its leaking. we cant drop the cross member as its welded in there. any ideas please as the car has been off the road for a month now and im disabled so getting in and out of my dads moggy is not doing me any good. thanks for the replies |

Title: Re: sump wont stop leaking Post by a900one on Oct 17th, 2015, 10:30pm Have you put a new gasket on ?. It can be better to not over tighten the sump bolts as it can cause the sump to get miss shaped. |

Title: Re: sump wont stop leaking Post by Glyn on Oct 17th, 2015, 11:53pm If you go to the main site and look up the 2.3 engine specifications http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/manual/engines/dohc2_3/2300Description.pdf the gasket is apparently vulcanised to the sump cover and it looks as though if the gasket is damaged you have to replace the cover Hope this helps |
