Title: Handbrake Warning Light Post by Tenfut on Jan 25th, 2019, 11:37am My handbrake warning light has started working intermittently. Is it likely to be the dash at fault or is there a hidden switch somewhere that activates it? TIA Tony |

Title: Re: Handbrake Warning Light Post by Andycan on Jan 25th, 2019, 4:10pm That is the piece of the centre console around the handbrake that holds the rubber covering down. You just unscrew the 6 screws around it and then take it out so you can pull the rubber up to get access to the handbrake switch. |

Title: Re: Handbrake Warning Light Post by Tenfut on Jan 25th, 2019, 7:50pm 1. Remove the centre console (refer to Operation Number 43 814 0). How do I find this please? Cheers Tony |

Title: Re: Handbrake Warning Light Post by Tompion on Jan 25th, 2019, 11:43pm Hi Tony, I can't find that PDF (43 814 0) but I assume it'll tell you to remove the 2 screws under the lid of the centre arm rest & lift the switch console over the handbrake lever. It can be awkward unplugging the switches. Have a look here - not all of it - just the 2 screws arrowed in the second picture & the next 2 pictures give an idea of unplugging the switches. http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/manual/autotrans/GearSelector.pdf Dave |

Title: Re: Handbrake Warning Light Post by Tenfut on Jan 26th, 2019, 8:59am Thanks Dave and Andy. Does this light have any bearing on the MOT? tONY |

Title: Re: Handbrake Warning Light Post by Tompion on Jan 26th, 2019, 10:09am On reflection I don't think it has that gaiter held with six screws - once you lift the switch console I think you can see the switch. Not sure about MOT but make sure it functions properly as the brake fluid warning - & check brake fluid level & connection at reservoir. Check at ignition on with handbrake off that the light comes on & goes out the same as other warning lights. If it's light out with handbrake on you may be OK (don't really know). If it's light on handbrake off it would be a fail as indicating a fault with fluid level. Oddly enough mine was intermittent the day of my MOT so I had to chance it - it's never played up since ::) Dave |

Title: Re: Handbrake Warning Light Post by Tenfut on Jan 26th, 2019, 3:15pm Thanks Dave, useful information. However if I understand you correctly you say with ignition on and handbrake off the handbrake warning light should come on with all the others and then go off. Mine doesn't it only lights up with the handbrake on. Just read the handbook and this would seem to be working correctly ie doesn't come on and off like the others if the handbrake is off. Cheers Tony |
