In my quest to get absolutely everything correct and working 100% on my Cossie, I'm now down to two small things (plus one confusion).

I'm feeling particularly feeble not being able to sort this, but ... my rear view mirror is stuck!

Unlike on my old Ultima saloon, the Ghia-X Cossie has the manual mirror (which I don't mind at all, especially after the photochromatic self-dipping one on my old Scorpio died last year). However the previous owner of the Cossie must have been shorter than me, and if I look in the rear view mirror from my normal position, I only see the bottom half of the rear window: to see it all I have to nod my head down each time. But it simply won't adjust in any direction. Trying as best i can to hold the base still while trying to get the mirror to move on the ball joint, the only movement I get is actually the base starting to move on the sticky pad fixing it to the glass. I'm also, I have to say, rather afraid of damaging the windscreen.

I don't suppose anyone has a trick (even a blindingly obvious method, as these days I can stare blankly past the blindingly obvious) for freeing off a stuck mirror ball-joint? I vaguely presume it should be possible to loosen off the circular bit round and over the ball, but can't see what kind of tool it would need or how to apply it.

If it is on a sticky pad then it should come off without damage to the screen. Warm a thin palette knife and gently slide it under the sticky pad. Once off you should be able to get at the circular fitting and loosen it. Warm it slightly with a hair dryer or apply a gentle pressure with a pair of grips. Just take your time and go easy.
Sticky mirror pads are easy to obtain and cheap. Clean any old adhesive off before refitting.

I was wondering if I needed to take the mirror off, but wasn't sure how to go about it. Thanks. I'll give it a try.
