Title: sunroof
Post by november_man on Feb 1st, 2021, 6:12pm
it never rains but it pours. decided to check the sunroof drain tubes. tubes clear. attempted to close roof with accompanying clattering sound. managed to close it fully forward but the rear of the glass did not come up to roof level. pulled the motor and yes the nylon gear is hollowed. with no motor insitu is there a way to get the glass up to roof level ? silver duct tape on dark blue looks a bit unsightly !
thanking any contributor in anticipation.........................

I don't know if This (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/sunroof.htm)  will help but worth a look. There is also another article referenced in the 'keys' at the side of the page.

thanks. found those, but still no further on. just wondered how the rear of the glass " cams " up to roof level. cables are lubricated ok but panel is stiff 3/4 the way during closure manually. does the roof lining have to be removed to remove the whole shooting match ?

Does This (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/manual/body/closures/slideroof.pdf) help?

In the first link Simmo gave you'll see on the second to last picture it is labelled Pop-up adjuster guide. One each side they hook onto the raising mechanism as it closes and can be adjusted to get the height right but probably best left alone until everything sorted.
I usually find pushing up or down on the glass whilst winding usually gets it moving. If you can get the glass tilted up you'll see the plastic lifting ramps each side, oil them.

This is one of the lifting ramps, it has a lot of work to do in a short space so lubricating the 2 tracks you can see and the pivot points can make a big difference.
It's mainly plastic, the 2 screws you can see hold the glass to the carrier (I think it's just one more screw at the front) trouble is they screw into brass inserts in the plastic & the screws rust in. If you have to drill the heads off you have to be really careful not to let it get hot otherwise the insert will turn in the plastic.

everything now sorted but everything in the garden is not rosy. unfortunately Mr. Rust has invaded the two front rounded "corners". is it known if the Scorpio sunroof was fitted to any other Ford where a replacement could be sourced ?  thank you.

I seem to remember that the " Granada " sunroof was the same dimensions worth a look.

If you can measure your sunroof glass and post the dimensions I can compare to a Sierra sunroof glass to see if that is the same which may give you another option. Finding a replacement sunroof glass without a rusty frame is going to be a challenge...decent Sierra sunroof glass sells for serious £££'s on fleabay.

Hi
The Granada roof is the same and suffers the same rust problems as the Scorpio. I checked out the Sierra roof when I needed one and the ones I saw were different, but the motor on hi spec ones fitted. I was wondering if a steel replacement could be made.
Gerald.

thank you for replies. been looking for a replacement now since the beginning to no avail. not many Scorpios in the breakers and when car is found sunroofs already gone.
