Title: Insurance for 4.27 diff mod
Post by Highlander on Jun 8th, 2009, 9:22pm
I've been running a 24v with a 4.27 diff now for three years plus

the insurance companies i've been with dont increase the premium for this as "its a part off a lower performance model" despite the increase in performance it gives :)

Hope thats of use to anyone thinking about doing it

what difference does it make on top speed and mpg

lol ive never had it at top speed but i'm reliably informed it will still hit the limiter ;)

my mpg is probably down around 18-20 now compared with 25

Motorway driving is the killer, it sits 1000 rpm  higher now for the same speed than it did before.

In a standard 24v it sits around 2500 rpm at 70
now it sits at 3500 rpm at 70

but i reckon around town its actually better on fuel.

BUT i didnt do it for fuel consumption ;)

I can stay with my pals Porsche Boxster from a standing start ;)

However if you ever get it in your mini i think you'll leave everything standing!!  ;D

Stu, think such mod is possible on a 16v?

Yep, your 2.3 diff is a 3.91

the 2.0 16v diff is 4.27 so it wouldn't make as much difference as it does in the 24v but it would make a difference
