Title: Insurance Sorted 24v
Post by Daniel on May 29th, 2012, 6:59pm
Hi all
Just got the insurance sorted for the 24v. We are delivering old car (2.3) saturday so needed the 24v insured for sat afternoon. Currently its Around £650 a year for my mom to drive the 2.3 fully comp unlimited milage with aviva. Have just swaped insurance over to the 24v from sat for £71 per month Fully Comp Unlimited milage and declared modifications. Not too bad but do you think i could get cheaper? does it sound a lot to you? My mom is (43 Sorry mom  ;D) only driver on it Full no claims discount no points no previous convictions what do you think?
Dan  ;D

Isn't there a lot of restrictions with classic-car insurance, and there isn't a NCB build up on classics either is there?

Bit late to stick my oar in, but I got a good service (intelligent, English people on an 0800 freefone number) from LV.
They charged me about 200 quid for my 24V. I'm 54, no points or claims and live in Woking. I thought that was reasonable.
Not impressed with Admiral and the multi car con: when I wanted to remove one they were going to levy about 50 quid or more 'cancellation' fees. Plus their phone numbers are 0845 which is a 'premium' (for which read money-making for them) number and expensive, so I won't be using them again.
I managed to phone them on the number given for overseas customers, on a Cardiff number, but was connected to India.
(I use 1899 a discount tarriff which doesn't work on 0845's - Google it).
I was then required to speak to the renewal department and he tried very hard to get me to redial, but I insisted on being transferred. First attempt went tits up, so I went through the ball-aching process all over again and this time made contact...with the renewal department in Canada!!
Now, I'm not Einstein but I fail to see how this is good for me, the customer. If you phone LV, they speekah dee ingrish velly good.
Albeit with a Scouse accent!! Recommended.
I also have a classic car policy with a number of cars covered on that, from a specialist but the condition of this is that I have a 'normal' car for everyday use, ie my Scorp. So I can't insure that as a classic.
And whilst I'm on a whinge, watch out for your 'voluntary' excesses - there will likely be 'compulsory' excesses in addition to whatever you might 'volunteer'. So when you come to make a claim, these are added together, and could well be 500 quid or more. I'm sure we'd all be very grateful if you've just totalled something - or someone - valuable and may therefore be responsible for a big repair bill, but to stump up a monkey on what might be a car worth only something along those lines presents a slightly different scenario, does it not.
Looks like they aren't risking too much after all, doesn't it. Lets invest in them, the divis must be handsome...and THAT's what it's all about.
Whinge over. Good night all.

Most classic car insurance has an agree limited milage, no noclaims bonus abve 30 per cent, only one vehicle use at a time ie you cannot use one and let say your wife use another at same time . aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
A lso £45 per month equals £540 per year {i think}

 Jeff.>        0845=local rate,hence no discount tariff.

Confusing replies.

Yes, Liverpool Victoria. No doubt for every satisfied customer like me there's one who has been pee'd off. Any one else using them?

0845 is local rate, yes. But I should have said 0870....this is something like 8p a minute I think. But even 0845 would be expensive for me, as I get a big fat charge of 0p per minute using the 1899 tariff 'club'.
The deal is I dial....oh sorry that's not very good, is it....I dial 1899 then the full STD number and once connected, there is no further charge, although you do get billed for 4 or 5p for the connection. I have been using them for a couple of years or more and it seems excellent to me. Mobiles and overseas calls are reduced, too, but not free. I think moby's cost about 6p per minute - it announces the charge each time you connect. Google 'em and see for thyselfs.
