Sometimes, after refilling the cooling system air can get trapped & prove difficult to remove by the normal method of running the car with the expansion tank cap off. I find the following method works wonders at getting rid of any airlocks......

1) On the expansion tank, pull off the small pipe that goes to the top radiator hose (middle small pipe on cossie).

2) Take a piece of transparent tube approx 1 metre long & similar diameter to the small pipe & shove it in. Attach the other end of the tube high up on the bonnet so as to create a high point in the cooling system (air rises to the highest point).

3) Start the engine & let it warm up until the temp guage rises & the thermostat starts to open.

4) Once warmed up, let it tickover & give it a few revs every now & then. Hopefully, when revving, you should soon see the coolant rise up the tube followed by any pockets/bubbles of air.
P.S...Don't give it too much welly or the coolant will shoot out of the tube ;)

5) Keep doing this for a few minutes until you are sure that coolant is flowing around the whole system & no more air can be seen coming out of the tube. Then switch off engine, leaving the tube in place & wait a few minutes for any remaining air stuck in the system to make it's way up & exit via the tube....it's a good idea to give all the pipes a squeeze in order to help the air along it's way ;)

6) Restart engine again, give it a few light revs & if all you see is coolant flowing up the tube (no air pockets or bubbles), then it's job done :)
