Title: WTF moment with driver seat
Post by Tekno on Dec 14th, 2009, 3:25pm
Was driving to nearby town when my DRIVER SEAT started to pull towards and squeeze me between it and steering wheel. Well I though it goes back when I pull it to normal position. Yea it moved back but once I left my finger from button, it started again squeezing me. And couldn't just hold it in back position as then I couldn't reach the pedals, LOL. I had to drive in VERY THIGHT position as I were in hurry to go exam.
Couple hours after when I left from school, I managed to put seat to comfortable position, but now none of presets work and I cant save them.

Mine has not done his while driving, but the seat adjustment during opening the locks has done a similar trick a few times. But only the seatback has moved excessively the wrong way, and pressing unlock again corrected the position.

Hi Tekno -- in my case - LHD Cosworth - the cause was the connector block that sits directly under the dash and connects to the underside of the lefthand fusebox in the window-wiper-well.

Your left shoe is pointing toward its location, about 40 cm way up. It is covered in damping material which you will need to fold away first. You will almosty break your neck trying to look up, reason why I used my small compact camera on macro. You will find a bunch of differently colored connectors that have corroded since 1998, the last production year.

I remember it is connector 110 from the electric diagram.

In the end I used an empty 1,5 Liter Coke-bottle, holding it by the screwcap, stomping it all the way upwards towards these freaking connectors. Worked for me.

The other culprit could be the main electronics unit which sits in the LHD drivers door. It governs windows, seats, door-ajar etc. by multiplex codes saving wires in production. Rather sensitive. Clean all 100 contacts with appropriate Kontakt 60/61 spray. This is a damp location!

HTH, Ray

PS I will try and attach a picture later to illustrate; last time that did not work though
