Title: Back flushing the heater matrix, 2-3
Post by ro284 on Dec 26th, 2011, 7:09pm
As above i know there has been a bit of discussion about getting air out of the cooling system, but i have not had a lot of success with this problem on my 2-3,
first of all my water pump started showing water from the sight hole, and then the heater stopped working, (so i temp blocked off the hole till i can get another pump.) as i thought air may be drawn in!
with my problems in the past, i thought i would just back-flush the matrix, as this is where the air gets stuck.
i also used a long clear plastic hose hooked up high on the open bonnet catch, there is a tube connector in the supply hose from the rear of the pump. also one passing over the top of the inlet manifold, so pulled them off, (no water comes out of pump tube untill you take off the coolant cap.(which there is no need to do ) with the tube to matrix from the pump i connected garden hose pushed in, and the one from the pump blocked off with a push fit tapered cork, then on the top hose from the matrix i connected the clear pipe, turned on garden hose slowly at first, and watched all the air come out of the matrix and rise up the pipe with a full blast to make sure, then connected the top hose back on (goes to stat housing.) i left the hose filling very slowly watching it rise in the filler tank, while quickly taking the bung out and pushfitting the hose back together to the pump, no need to run the engine, no need to do the whole system which i believe is designed to remove any air from the cooling system, Nice to have some heat! Only took 10 minutes, easy job, Hope this way may help someone.
