But as soon as it opened up , I opened the scorp up and...........wohooooo ;D
These birds can fly ;)
If this is your regular route I will keep an eye out for you as I join the 120 at Braintree.

I'll also have to keep an eye out for you Graham as, like you, I also tread the Braintree - M11 route everyday. I have probably spotted you in the past - for sure. Is yours a facelift ? S regs do grab my eye simply because they are so rare.

Hi Daren..........S reg, non face lift. It must have been sitting in a field somewhere. It was regestered in 99 and as you say getting quite rare ;D
I am in the process of converting the grill at the mo to a more sporty chrome mesh style. (my thanks to jonnycab for finding a first class grill for me ;))
What do you have...so I can give you a cheery wave!
Graham

BTW...do you live in the Braintree area?

I'm sure I must have seen yours. You're right though - a non-facelift '99 registered Scorpio is really knocking on the door of sitting in field for a long time.

I actually work at Ford in Brentwood, hence the reason for my route. I actually look at these type of stats - how long unregistered/unsold vehicles are with dealers - surprisingly, even with the turning climate of the '90s towards exec saloons, Scorpios weren't the only Ford model on the list blessed with sitting in fields for ages. The current Mondeo will have the same problem when the new one is launched in July. Just not so noticeable as the model isn't being totally deleted.

I live in Gt Yeldham - just north of Braintree heading towards Haverhill - hence the reason for my route. I'm afraid I'm a turncoat - I bought a 54 plate black ST Mondeo at the end of Jan this year and sold the Scorpy last month, merely due to fuel expense. So I won't be as noticeable - afterall, how many Mondeos are there on the roads. But if you see a black ST - a bit rarer - it's likely to be me.

I trek the A120 every morning at 8.30 - 9.00, but varies in the evening, dependant on when I leave work - normally between 7-8pm along there.

You may have seen my Scorpio though - it was an N reg silver diesel saloon and I facelifted it. Never really a fan of the earlier style.

The Mondeo doesn't drive as comfortably as the Scorpio - but I am getting 47mpg vs the Scorpio's 30 - big saving a month. I will miss the exec saloon and prob end up getting another.

I'll look out for you - if you see a crazed Mondeo driver flashing you, you'll know its me.

BTW - you all may have seen this - their tipping the new Mondeo to be the spiritual Scorpio successor, even though the name and class is different. But the size of the new one is as big and the comfort / toy levels are getting the yr 2000 standard Scorpio.

Hi daren. I have always fancied the ST200 they do look very sporty...probably the reason that I am going at the grill with me dremmel and drum sander ;)
I will keep an eye out for you.

BTW, my old man used to be a chauffer at fords brentwood and drive the boss there, I think his name was Bark. My old man was there for years and he got to drive all of the top notch grannys. He even came home one day with a cossie somethingorother...it had a double spoiler. You will probably know what it was.
But my favourite was the capri 2.8............omg that was quick!

Hi Graham. Yes, the ST200 was a nice piece of motor but had very nice looks which wasn't backed up by super special performance, unfortunately.

If you think that the 2.9 24V Cossie Scorps were developed when - 1990 ? - and produced the type of performance that they do in a big car - if you sat in an ST200, I don't think it would be any quicker. Yet it was developed by Ford a whole decade later.

Still - nice looking cars. It was only when the new shape ST220 was launched that Mondeo firmly placed itself on the performance map - however, most people prefer the looks of the previous version.

Sounds like your old man got to try some nice beasts. The Sierra with the high twin tail on the back was prob a 3 door XR4i. The 3 door Cossies had a similar style high rear wing but it only a one piece spoiler. Both were great cars for their day - shame Ford isn't in that super league (like the Imprezas & EVO's) today.

The 2.8 Capri was a beast - I had one of these myself and my mum still has one after 20 odd years of ownership - doesn't drive it much now, though. Full on rear wheels sliding out of line and total mayhem - but fantastic fun.

Have you noticed - these are one of the very few cars that you have to descibe by its cc. OK - on here, we announce our cars as 16V Scorpios or Cossie Scorpios but this is an enthusiasts forum.

Most people in the street would say that they had a Cortina or an Escort in the past. If they had one, those same people would enforce that they had a 2.8 Capri. Must be something in how special/different they were.

I had a 1600cc capri.nice little runabout...if you wanted to do some work in or about the engine you had enough room to sit in the engine bay }{
One size fits all was the thing back then ;D
But I am old enough to remember the first capris and its sister the classic. both had american body styling and lots of chrome stuff. probably had the road holding of a lardy pig...havent seen any examples of those for oooooo many years. you never know, someone here may have a nice example stuffed away somewhere :)
