Title: Re: Kent Meet (24/09/06) Post by hepburn on Sep 21st, 2006, 11:47pm Sadly it looks like I won't be able to make this one. Also, I sold my Scorpio this week so I probably won't be "officially" attending any more meetings. However, I will look in on the essex meetings from time to time as they are a nice bunch of people... |

Title: Re: Kent Meet (24/09/06) Post by Geoff_W on Sep 23rd, 2006, 3:22pm Ultima Bloke Having seen the piccy on FRAPPR are we looking at a Mk3 hatch with an Ultima front end, looks intriguing, what did you do? http://www.frappr.com/?a=photo&gid=356077&pid=2576182&src=flash_slideticker In any event well done 8) |

Title: Re: Kent Meet (24/09/06) Post by Ultima_Bloke on Sep 23rd, 2006, 4:35pm Hi geoff! My "ultima hatchback" is indeed a mk3 hatch with a ultima front on. I started the conversion at the beginning of the year, and had it ready for the bromley pageant, in june (which was when the photo was taken) there are still a few jobs to do yet, i.e, blacking out the chrome trims around the rear windows. I.M.O it does look really smart, almost, as it shouldve looked, if fords had built such a car. p.s, thanks for the compliment! :D |

Title: Re: Kent Meet (24/09/06) Post by Geoff_W on Sep 23rd, 2006, 6:06pm Really impressed, I loved my old mk3 hatch. Have you thought about biting the bullet and fitting Ultima lights and bumper to the rear? I suspect somebody at Ford designed a hatch version but it got pulled, did you make pics of the conversion process? |

Title: Re: Kent Meet (24/09/06) Post by Ultima_Bloke on Sep 23rd, 2006, 6:22pm As far as the back goes, I smoothed the mk3 bumper off, i.e, done away with the plastichrome strip, and filled the recess, so as it follows the line of the ultima front bumper, and fitted, later mk3 dark rear lights. All in all, the rear does look in keeping with the rest of the car, especially the dark lights, against the aubergine paintwork. Personally, the mk3 back always looked spot on, as it was. I took pics of each step of the conversion, which I will eventually get round to putting on here, just as soon as I work out how too. Looking back, the job would have been a tad easier, had I used a facelift mk3, as they share the same wiper arrangement as the ultimas (I used a pre-facelift car, and had to change the whole wiper assembly) The bodylines of the granada and the ultima are completely different, hence why I had to fit ultima doors, even now there is a slight diiference in profiles from the back doors to the back wings, but nothing that cant be reshaped eventually. As for the wiring.... I have gone for the simpler route, and used the mk3 harnesses in the ultima doors (would you believe, the doors fitted straight on, but the plugs in the doors, are nothing like the sockets in the pillars) There were lots of things, that were different, that I thought would be the same, and vice versa. |

Title: Re: Kent Meet (24/09/06) Post by Geoff_W on Sep 23rd, 2006, 6:31pm Well I have taken this up to the News link. ;) Very impressive piece of work. Which engine do you have and did you think about swapping dashboards as well? Geoff |
||
Title: Re: Kent Meet (24/09/06) Post by Ultima_Bloke on Sep 23rd, 2006, 6:43pm WOW!! ;D Its a cosworth, and as for dashboards, have you seen how compicated a ultima dashboard is? haha. Nah, I decided to leave the interior as per mk3 spec, especially as it is a granny scorpio. |

Title: Re: Kent Meet (24/09/06) Post by Daven on Sep 25th, 2006, 7:26am Another excellent meet - weather was good and so was the company! Sorry Jo and I had to get away sharpish - so much to do and so little time! ;) Hope Mike (Simmo) shifted some more pens ;) And down to visit the Shoreham Aircraft Museum next week (see here (http://www.shoreham-aircraft-museum.co.uk/) - not far from the Badgers) thanks to Trevor (Pagey) for the info!
