Bout 40 miles south of Edinburgh of the A1, former RAF airfield now open to public as the Musueum of Scotlands aerospace museum. With its own Concorde for people to mooch around in.

They charge to get in to exhibits but loads of FREE carparking and a reasonable caf on site.

http://www.nms.ac.uk/museumofflighthomepage.aspx

Alternatively how about Berwick?

OR

Can we have a local suggest a pub?

It's gona cost me an East FORTUNE ;) in fuel.. ( how come I end up going the furthest???  )  so Concord may be out..

I recon you guys should come to Keswick to the Cars of the Stars for the next meet, I may be able to get conssesion tickets as my M8's landlord is the owner ;) ;) ;)

hi there

what time for concord?

Quote:

i love keswick. try to get down for the day twice a year. now sure when i'd have time this side of the year, though. maybe early next year?
re distance. it's normally me going hundreds of miles for a meet! it's great when it's only an hour and a half away! ;D

Title: Re: Borders...
Post by Geoff_W on Oct 24th, 2006, 12:02pm
My thought for concode is about 2ish, do you think we need to book?

TT I will be coming up from Castleford so thats going to be a fair few miles  ;)

Actually somewhere up in the lakes next year would be good

SAT nav recons
over 3:16hrs (96m ) on the A7     :o
or    2:34 (121M ) M74 and then accross...  :-/

Probably be better on the borring M74..

TT

Title: Re: Borders...
Post by Geoff_W on Oct 24th, 2006, 1:29pm
But the A7 is a fun road apart from the cameras

Title: Re: Borders...
Post by twinturbo on Oct 24th, 2006, 1:45pm
I love the A7, used to do it all the time but I aint going to see better than 25mpg.. Which means 8 Galons over 192m...

As opposed to 30MPG on the A74, and ..... 8 Gallons over 242m...

Just a mater of saving myself 45Minutes and the boy not getting too fed up being stuck in the car for 6 1/2 hours as opposed to 5hrs...

TT

Title: Re: Borders...
Post by Highlander on Oct 24th, 2006, 4:05pm
TT If you're coming Edinburgh way we could meet up somewhere and convoy  ;D

Andrew and Sam up for that?

Title: Re: Borders...
Post by twinturbo on Oct 24th, 2006, 4:10pm
Yeah could do that..

Abingdon would seem the most appropriate.

TT

Title: Re: Borders...
Post by twinturbo on Oct 24th, 2006, 4:13pm
Will take me an hour to get there by my reconing.

and the other 1.5hrs to get across to EF..

so if we meet at Abingdon ~10am ?

TT

Title: Re: Borders...
Post by Highlander on Oct 24th, 2006, 4:47pm
Thats the opposite direction for us :)

We'd have to come back the way we came :)

Edinburgh bypass??
petrol station where the A1 joins the A720?

Title: Re: Borders...
Post by twinturbo on Oct 24th, 2006, 8:16pm
Going further up the M74 adds too much time/distance to the equation...

A1/A720 .... Almost there but yeah...

TT

Title: Re: Borders...
Post by Highlander on Oct 24th, 2006, 8:33pm
What way you going then?

Title: Re: Borders...
Post by twinturbo on Oct 24th, 2006, 8:47pm
M74, then across from abingdon services..

TT

Title: Re: Borders...
Post by Highlander on Oct 24th, 2006, 9:22pm
To Edinburgh then  ;D

Thats the way you'll be going anyway isnt it?

Turn off at Abington onto the A702 then onto the Edinburgh Bypass??

Title: Re: Borders...

At the minute it looks as though I may have to drop out :( :( :(
On the way back from blackpool on monday started to get some front wheel bearing rumbling.
Havn't got the cash to do it at the minute and would not want to risk the journey.
And I couldnt bring myself to bring the wifes french thing to a scorp meet.
Will let you know if the situation changes though

Title: Re: Borders...

Bring the french thing... It's froggy like a scorpio...

You wana see the mixed dross we get on the XR owners Highland fling run...

This year...

MY crappy XR4x4 2.0 ( Lucky it made it there and back!!! )
A nice 2.8 XR4i ( PURE HARDCORE!!! )
A 1.25 Mk5 Festa ( XR3i was rusting away )
A Focus TDCI ( XR2i was too small )
A Corado 16V ( My brother inlaw, never an XR but he did have a 4x4 Sapph Cossy before the Corado..)
A Mondeo TDCI ( Cos his one owner XR3i was rotted out )
And a ScooobyDoo Impretza . ( Cos his 4i Track car needed a new turbo )

And that's a goof year!!

Tell me about it I am gutted.
If the scorp was fine she would jump at the chance of having it for the day I wouldnt care she is likely to do less than twenty miles allday but will not do it in my car because the bearings are rumbling a bit.
Its not that long ago she HAD to have the scorp because her car wouldnt start due to the diesel tank having thirty quids worth of unleaded in it.
Shes gone to bed now but the matter is not closed yet believe me >:(

We all had a good day,

I broke my car and fixed part of Tintins...

Got lost following Higlander!! ( does he not know his own country!! )

Watched tintin demolish 2 LARGE sausage butties..

Saw some planes.. ( good value for money that  ::) )

And generaly had a good day. 4hrs or so...

...

We spent 20 mins trying to sort by blown indicators, in the end I had to drive 120 miles home without them...

I also had to sort a number of other issues after my 2yr old had been playing in the car...

1) Close sunroof ( why do they work with the ignition off?)
2) Re position mirror  ( That was a heart stopping moment when I glanced over and saw him pulling it arround!!! )
3) Why are peps flasshing and beconing?  ( Ahhh he's put main beam on!! )
4) Why's my bum so bloomin hot!! ( ahh he's put my seat heater on!!! )

Little fella locked himself in the car too with the keys!!! fortunatly the tailgate was open  :o

All together not a bad day...

Good drive home, had to stop to buy some Hedex... and to do another impromptu nappy change... Dam useful the estate!

Oh...

And look at the pic.. HOW LOW CAN YOU GO!!!

Mines the Tourmallard Estate 2nd from right...

Sasuage Butties good VFM... £2.75

Driks a little on the pricy side mind..

Geoff should go on mastermind...

We also had an admirer.. A guy came over for a chat who is thinking of buying one after workign on one a couple of weeks ago.. I gave him the web URL so he may pop in for a chat ;) ..

We also had a laugh at Geoff...

Whilst he was on concord we wer discussing boot locks and the releas button PUSSHEYNESS..

I demonstrated mine was a non pushy type..

Then demonstrated Geoffs was PUSSHY.. and hey Presto... Boot opens :D :D ...    Senile old codger forgot to lock his mota... :D :D

yep, good meet ! spitfires are the coolest .....

a problem shared and all that.... i feel a bit better about my car (now i've heard TTs idle  ;D )

brilliant to find probably reason for my "sticky" idle (d**n, why do i keep trusting garages to put back the bits properly?), and catch up with everyone again,

you'll be glad to know i got back in one piece !!

Spits... A good Mk4 1300 with a bit of tweaking is a Joy... pity the 1500 was not as good... But drop in that loverley 2.5 Six :D :D :D...

Yeah.. Mine is RUF!!!...

Did your car run better on the way back..

Your EGR valve would have been opening all the time with the way the garage had left the vac lines.. What a total F...k up...

Good day out and actually in Sams case I think you will find that it was a sausage sandwich followed by a bacon sandwich  ;D

Incidentally TT did you resist the temptation to indicate on the way back? Good luck with the flasher relay or switch!

Keswick sounds good. I take it details follow on nearer the time. Reading between the lines, looks like I've just missed one! Nevertheless, lookin forward to it & gives me chance to get those niggling repairs made!
