hi there

just a wee update on the harewood house meeting.

harewood house have (just about) updated their website. it's back to the normal 1 day event on the Sunday (19/6/11).

unfortunately i'm 95% certain that i can't make it this year. i'm down in Yorkshire the following week.

does someone else want to organise it?
all you do it collect the money (still £5 + £1 postage, etc), print out the pdf file from the harewood house site, etc and post out the tickets to the members that have paid when you get them.

let me know if anyone wants to do it.

regards
andrew

Would it be possible to provisionally put me down on the list as well?

I'm about to pull the bodywork to bits after this weekend and fix all the dings and rust on the old motor. Hoping to have it all done for June so would be nice to tag along.

So can we set a deadline for say the Friday before? 3rd June

Club entries  £5.00 per vehicle

2 adults and upto 3 children admitted per car entry

£5 per Gazebo pitch

I think the best way to pay is probably paypal?

Anyone who wants to send a cheque or someother payment pm me for my address.

If you can send £5 per car as a gift, (apparently that means there are no fees deducted from it) to me

Before the Friday 3rd June.

I'll send all the details and money to Harewood on Monday 6th then post out the tickets and info packs once I receive them.

Please ensure you send me your postal address as the gift option on Paypal does not forward the senders address.

Stuart,

I believe I've paid for two tickets?

I was wondering if anybody who is going would be able to put a signal on my wife's temperature gauge sensor to see if there is a problem with the wiring? I changed the instrument cluster and sensor and both did not solve the problem but this is really bugging me! >:(

Trev is it for your saloon? black leather?

Might have one if Rod doesnt sort you out

Looks like we have 19 definite and 2 maybe.

Unless we get any last minute entries I plan to book 22 places (its only £1.25 per car once we're above 10 cars anyway)

So even if everyone makes it we'll have a spare space in case anyone decides they want to come on the day

Or in case Trev decides to turn up in that Monster Merc again! ;D

Just as a matter of interest, I'm assuming that some take all this very seriously indeed (if it's anything like Motorcycles) I'm not expected to do any prep work am I...I'm fundamentally bone-idle, Don't need a full set of Ford documents on the dash, proof of original Ford air in the tyres etc.
I could take a photo of the car wash that I'll use just before if that's any good?

It's definitely not that sort of outfit, more a gathering of minds, with all due respect to the perfectionists I personally can't be doing with all that nonsense,I always suspect OCD in those people,it would worry me to death being one of them, and what must they suffer when it's raining ? the tension must be terrible  8)

As long as you don't give me the old one!!  ;D

Don't need them yet but once the tickets come back i'll need to post them out.

Harewood seemingly have a bit of a reputation for being slow to post them out.

If its too tight timewise when i get them back  to post them i'll just get up at silly oclock and catch you all at the gate! ;)

Yep no problem, will be booking a few extra spaces just in case, we have a couple who will not know until nearer the time if they can attend.

I've booked 24 places.

We have a couple in the list not sure if they will make it and another couple who might turn up on the day so should be plenty tickets even if everyone appears.

Although i was standing beside Baz's Merc last night and that might need 4 spaces on its own!!  ;D

Don't know any other details than that but we all wish him a quick recovery

Tickets have arrived this morning  ;D

Will get them posted off today, should be plenty of time for them all to arrive safely.

please let me know if you don't receive them by Saturday, we have spares available and I can meet you at the entrance.

I will send my mobile number to everyone going.

Entry is available from 7am until 10am.

looks like the entry/exit is via Church Lane this year, to the North of the map (near Morgan Steel Construction)

Not the main gate on the A61 / A659 junction (near the Post Office) as it was last year but there will be plenty signs up.

Post Code is LS17 9LQ

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&q=ls179lq&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Leeds,+West+Yorkshire+LS17+9LQ,+United+Kingdom&gl=uk&sqi=2&ll=53.899218,-1.515641&spn=0.009154,0.032659&t=h&z=16&iwloc=A

If you switch to satellite view (top right) you will see Harewood House bottom left with the showground in the centre.

Remember the sun cream!!  ;D

Wee breakdown of the costs :

+ £105.00 = 21 people paid £5 each

- £ 67.50   = 24 spaces booked first 10 @ £5 each, 14 @ £1.25 each

= £41.50 left

- £ 5.50 for envelopes

- £ 13.50 postage

= £22.50 remaining

So we can either donate that to the forum or everyone can have a small Ice cream cone ;D

Geoff.... don't worry. I have a few HBC's and bits and bobs I will bring including the parking sensor display thingy!!

I have boxes of switches, cigar lighter elements but do remember that Harewood do not like exhibitors to flog stuff from the backs of cars so just be aware and don't set up a stall or anything!!

Really good to see friends old and new, great turnout considering the weather, ranging from an 87 Granada Scorpio Mk1 to a stunning S Class, with an amazing amount of toys through to Gozz's pretty unique V reg CM 2.3 Ultima stretch Limo and some brilliant Ghias, Execs and Ultimas.

After a damp start, it turned into an absolutely brilliant day. For my part I would like to thank Stuart for organising the logistics (and providing a number of parts to transform my car) and to all the other cast of characters who helped me get to a point where my 2.5 now has:

A boot that absolutely springs open.
An AC that works thanks to a HBC that does what it should.
A CD player that does not skip, plays each disc and every track.
A facelift rear light cluster that replaces a cracked one (and another for one with a smaller crack
Finally a sunroof motor and sunroof that opens and closes as it should do.

I had meant to wait till I got home before tackling the jobs, but thanks to a variety of tools that people were carrying around with them (you know who you are!!!) the car is sorted, at least for the moment.

I know pictures of the event were being taken so I guess they will be up on the site before too long.

Cheers and roll on Harewood 2012

Geoff

Nice to meet everyone today, shame the weather couldnt have done us more favours but nevertheless everyone seemed to be making the most of it. I would like to second what Geoff said and thank Stuart for organizing, and posting out the tickets and also providing various spares for those in need, myself included.

Hope every one arrived home safely.

Both of us had a great day and it was really nice to see old faces and some new one's. My thanks to Stuart for organising this year, without his help none of us would have been able to meet up.

Weather turned out very nice in the end and I've ended up with a very red faced again due to the sun! :o

The only car that was missing from this year was a 2.9 12v, every other type of car I think was represented.

Thanks to everyone for making a new comer welcome today and again to Stuart for organizing a cracking day. Once the inital down pour subsided it turned into a great day to remember. It was nice to see such a large number of these now rather scarce but still beautiful classics in one place at the same time. Tony, your car is a credit to you. and thanks Matt for the advice. Took the belt off and seems 101% better.

Hope you all got back home safe and sound and see you all next year, car permitting. ;)

Another thanks to Stuart from stu and myself, once we finally made it to the paddock (no thanks to the clowns on parking duty), nothing a bit of moaning couldnt solv lol we had a great day. I even managed to offload some bits and bobs and get a sunroof at long last. Some stunning scorps on display, must leave the mechanicals alone for a bit and get the body back up to scratch if im going to keep up lol.

Gozz, your limo with its odd bits has made me look into getting one lol

Simon, got the boot tool holder out, pm me your address and ill pop it in the post

Steve, glad to hear dropping the belt off has been worth while, keep us updated if it starts playing up again

And lastly, we should do another meet later in the year, harewood 2012 is to far away

there were two 12v's there, one parked beside your good lady, Brian (gemeg22171) and one behind you, Tony (Pianoman)

I dont think we had a 2 litre though?

4 x 24v's
5 x 2.3's
3 x Diesels
2 x 12v
1 x Granada
1 x Mercedes with more battery power than a G Wiz! ;D

One of the highlights for me was our Scorpio crew throwing up the Gazebo in 5 mins during the downpour then watching the Vauxhall Owners club spend TWO HOURS in the rain trying to build theirs ;D

This was our patch at 6.45am

Sorry for the no show.  My 24v got a temperature on the way to the event and my fancy bonnet release would not open up.  I returned home in run and wait for it to cool stages.  my garage thinks there in a minor head gasget problem and has put some sort of gunk in it today ???.  Please all pray to the God Scorpio that this has fixed it, and I will be able to turn up next year.  Sorry that my "No Show" effected the weather as it did .  At least the car got its annual 'clean every bit' out of the event.
Best wishes

Sorry to hear that Dave, what gunk did they put in it?

Was the coolant just leaking through to the outside of the head gasket?

Thanks Stuart.  I don't know for sure where the leak was.  I've had to do frequent top ups for the last two years.  The real problem on Sunday was my inability to top up the water.  Not to sure what the product was but my garage use it regulary and have a lot of confidence in it.

I have a low ratio diff on my 24v but unfortunately the speedo readings are lower than the speed I'm doing. I need to be sure what my speedo says when doing 60 to do a test.  then I'd need my grandson to opperate the spopwatch and that will slow it down a bit.  I'd best be satisfied with "FAST" but not as fast as a modern supercar.

Dave.
Should it not read higher, the VSS thinks the wheels are turning faster in relation to it's gearing ?

The Chap who fitted the Diff also filled a different gear in the speedo drive to gearbox connector or where ever it goes but it left me with a lower speed reading than that which it was travelling at.

Thats interesting, fitting the 4.27 diff usually gives a speedo reading roughly 20mph above the actual speed.

For the speedo to read significantly lower than actual speed it must be a non scorpio VSS drive pinion that he fitted.

Can you find out what he fitted?

Title: Re: Harewood House Meet 2011
Post by freeman45 on Jun 25th, 2011, 12:50pm
I don't know what gear was fitted to the speedo drive but assumed that it was one from a 2.0 ltr.  I find that when the car is doing 30mph the speedo says 35mph.  I have never been one for collecting licence points, so use the rule of "Add 10% + 5mph above the speed limit" and I would be suficiently below the limit to not have to worry about anything but the impatient motorist behind me.  I've lost track with the other "D_mn Dave" who did the modification to the car since he got married and became a white van man.

Ahhh, you're confusing us!!  ;D

So the speedo reading is higher not lower than actual speed.

Thats probably just slightly above the normal speedo reading for a Scorpio, we reckon most show 10% over actual speed as standard anyway.

Most manufacturers do it that way to help stop you getting caught speeding although the Scorpios seem to be over more than most cars
