Title: Suggestion for 2018 Meeting to Celebrate 20th Anni
Post by Hoople on Oct 25th, 2017, 10:40pm
Hello Folks

I was wondering what appetite there might be for a get together in 2018 which also happens to be the 20th anniversary of the end of production of the Scorpio.  What about making something of it and inviting classic motoring journalists and finding somewhere with a relationship with Ford to locate the meeting?

Fords seem to be such big news these days but no one seems to remember the Scorpio.  Mine is a 1998 2.3 Ultima is very good condition with 75k on the clock.

I would be willing to organise/help organise.

Cheers

Matt

Sounds interesting, trouble is where to hold it as it may be a very long journey for some of us. Still spotted no Scorpios bar the ones I drive for a year now!

Hi.  Sorry for belated reply.  Yes, distance would be an issue.  What about looking for a location which can be as central as possible (a motor museum, perhaps)?  Mind you, no one else has responded so perhaps there's no appetite for such a meeting.  I'm up for it if others are!

I'll register an interest dependant on successful MOT, location and timing etc.

Cool, thanks.  I think it would be good to do even if it's just a few of us.  It's interesting to note how much interest in Ford there is these days in the classic market.  Hopefully the Scorpio will have its day!

I'd be interested to bring my M reg 24v, he's getting a bit rusty now but I try to keep him at his best and love him with all my heart. However I'm in Axminster, Devon and don't like to travel too far since I'm a bit old too.

I'm in Exeter so too far from Axminster (let me know if you ever want to meet up).  Judging by the small reply, there might not be enough interest to make it worthwhile.  However, let's keep an open mind and wait until the new year to have a rethink.  I think some kind of press interest would be nice in any event, but I would defer to the administrators of this site for their "official" representation, comments etc.

I would be interested, I went to the sandwell meet that Matt setup, that was a round trip of 500 miles from cornwall.

If you want to organise a meet next year feel free to do so . I am sorry to say that the original people on the site many have long since gone and its a new breed of owners with a few of the " original" crew still around,
You have to remember when this car first came on the scene it was ground breaking and aimed at the executive market priced at a around £29K which back then was an awful lot of money. It was only after a few years that the prices on the 2nd hand market brought them within reach of the general public.
SO if you want to organise a meet go ahead. Use the Forum to spread the word and good luck.

Hi

Thanks for your comments and support.  I'll pick this up again in 2018 to see if we can make something of it.

All the best

Matt

Being Six hours North of Carlisle, I think Beaulieu is a little far for me!   ;)

Reg goes to have his rust done on 16th April, if he survives and is home in time I'll bring him to Beaulieu.

Hey, you can always glue another piece of metal onto make him better!

Can't be there myself as too close to days away for 36th wedded bliss thingy? But I shall mis all the "what Ford is this" questions!!

No big meeting suggestion, but I'll be taking the Scorpio Estate on a reasonable haul to Badgers  Halt on Dartmoor around Lunchtime on the 7th October. Its a control point on the 48 hour Round Britain Reliability Run, an event where approx 130 teams of mainly classic Triumphs circumnavigate the UK in 48 hours, so some interesting cars coming through there over a 2-3 hours period, I should be there from between midday and 3p.m.

So if anyone with a Scorpio within striking distance wants to drop by and say Hi it would be a pleasure to meet you.

Alan

Hi Folks

Where has this year gone?!  After suggesting we try and meet up I have been tied up with work and family matters so dropped the ball... I would still like to meet up with any Scorpio owners if something could still be arranged but the weather is getting more cold and wet now.

Sorry about that folks.  Maybe next year?

Cheers

Matt

Choose a meeting place and a date, there are a few of us "down south" but getting together is a challenge.
Ugbrooke didn't happen as the guy didn't even reply when asked if there was a show this year - more money in shooting poor defenceless ducks I presume (if you,ve ever been there you will see what I mean).

Bicton Park has a large car park and is a nice place to spend the day open all year too. Be nice to see a row of Scorpios again.

Just a thought
Roy
