Title: Selling ultima for spares / repair ?
Post by Steve_S on Nov 21st, 2008, 11:26pm
I am probably going to break my Scorpio Ultima 24v P reg silver saloon, 130k. Before I do if anyone wants to make me an offer for the whole car?  Aberystwyth Wales.

There is an electrical fault causing loss of instrumentation and rendering the engine inoperative, which the local garage couldn’t find without costing more than I was prepared to pay.  Otherwise it ran like a dream, 4 new tyres fitted 1k ago, There is a gas system fitted which I will be removing.

Bad points, radio display not working, fault causing loss of dash instrumentation and immobilising engine, crack in front bumper, small damage to rear bumper, needs a new rear shock and wheel bearing.

Steve,

does it not start sometimes, like the starter inhibitior is operating??

Mine did this, sometimes i could turn they key for ages before it would suddenly spring into life, the instrument bulbs stayed on, or didnt come on at all.

Mines was the wiring on the gearbox loom, i ran it with the starter inhibitor relay shorted for a while before i got round to sorting the wiring...

Its always started ok.... one morning there was no dash/ instrument lights as if the instrument panel is disconnected.... there is power to the ignition and the starter clicks and just starts to turn a fraction then stops.... Yes its like there's an inhibitor operating.

found the inhibitor relay ( R11) but how do you short it?  Would really like to get her started if possible so would appreciate any help

Thanks

Steve

Hi Steve,

http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/images/central_fusebox.gif

This is the fusebox on the drivers side, the left of the drawing is to the front of the car.

The relay you are looking for is R11 right at the back, second on ine from the drivers side, a square yellow one (there are two or three square yellow ones) ;)

Its easier to remove a couple of the others to get it out as long as you put them back in the right place ;)

I also found turning the ignition off so that the wipers were pointing up the windscreen helped access.

I pulled the yellow cover off the relay, you'll see a switch inside which is open by default, I jammed it closed with a bit of paper ;)

Good Luck

Apologies for reminding you but it WILL start no matter where the selector is! (I did it)  }{

Position of selector makes no differance, still dead, Going to try the relay later when the battery is charged,

Think I need some new glasses lol... Thanks I didnt know that......
Anyhow many thanks Highlander its now starts and i can move it around though still no dash. Wiperes and indicators wont work either.

NB, rubber washing-up gloves makes easy work of griping and removing those the relays.

The car is now running (but not really roadworthy) if anyone wants it.

have you got the drivers side fusebox multiplug located correctly??

There are two small plastic pins on the end of it that need to be located under the locating lugs on the fusebox before you push the plug home.

he-he. had same problem year ago, also fixed R11  until bought a new selector position sensor (the silvered paths were totally rubbed, haven't found a way to fix it, so bought a new one)
