Title: Manual Sunroof Handle
Post by Fitzy on Jan 7th, 2005, 9:13pm
I need a manual winding handle for the sunroof because as stated in my thread in the problems section my sunroof will not open now, just get a whirring/clicking noise so want tp try a manual handle (if it fits) to try and unjam it.

Baz, you normally have a few bits and pieces knocking about, or will any Ford sunroof handle fit?

Cheers

Fitzy. The sunroof handle from a Granada should fit and it will have the surround and things to go with it. I will have a look tomorrow when I get back from Newcastle on Tyne.

Cheers Baz, well if one froma Granada fits i acan get one from my local scrappy next week, i only need it to open the roof to see why the motor won't move it, have you got any ideas as to what might be causing it not open, can the worm drives break or seize up?

The worm drive is metal but one of the cogs is plastic which does strip if the roof gets a bit stiff. A new motor (or one from a breaker, the granada one is the same but you will need to transfer the plug over as they are different on the granada.)

Fitzy,

Once you drop the motor down you should be able to slide the roof back manually. The motor provides the main resistance.

If you can get the roof open, try lubing the side rails and spraying something like WD40 (using the extension tube into the wholes in the side frame where you can see the cable.

Other thing if you get the roof open is check that the screws that hold the roof/rails have not come loose, especially at the front, that could cause the nylon spline in the motor to slip/skip.
