Title: Cosworth Engine Run Relay, R19
Post by manscorpio on Apr 9th, 2007, 3:43pm
The weathers getting warmer and air con. will be needed. My Cosworth has an unusual problem, reported before, in that with R19 in, the generator light flickers. Without R19, no flicker, but the downside is no air con.
In the winter I run without R19 and put it back in for the summer.
Guess what, I have lost R19 - it is the square brown relay in the auxiliary fusebox. If anyone has one spare, email lightning@manx.net.
Hopefully

Ian

The small brown relay isn't anything special and you'll find it is used in several other circuits - in fact nearly any Ford you'll find in a scrapyard will have at least one or two of them.  However you do need to make sure it is brown as there are different colours and some of them are wired differently!

Just to close this one down - eventually ended up with three relays, all brown, but smaller than the one originally fitted and subsequently mislaid.  However this smaller relay actually does the job - allows air con to work without flickering generator light. Ford verified that my original should not have been fitted.  The correct one has Ford part number 85GG14NO89CA on it at the bottom.  Mystified as to how the offending large squarer relay came to be fitted.  Many hours have been spent investigating this problem and hope that others will benefit from my experience!
