Title: Climate Control
Post by josswallace on Apr 18th, 2007, 9:36am
I need the control unit from the dash board and the SATC (temperature control) unit from an Ultima where the owner knows that the units work together including the reset procedure as I have replaced both my units and the replaced parts refuse to work together.

There's an Ultima in a scrapyard near me with both the front panel and the module behind.  See my post "Breaking 2.9 ultima saloon" in parts for sale section for contact details - they should be cheap.

It's strange that the two won't work together, as that is what they are designed to do & as far as I'm aware, they are all compatible with each other.

I bought a control panel & SATC off Ebay last year, separately, & they work together with no problems  ;)

Are you sure that it isn't one of the units which is faulty & have you tried interchanging with the old units ?....& is the ribbon cable from the SATC to the control panel firmly pushed home (side clamps locked on to multiplug).

Maybe you should stick this on the problems page before spending out more cash  ;)

JC has a good point in relation to the ribbon cable. If the connector is not fully secured the act of refitting the panel etc will cause it to be displaced/disconnected.

My problems stem from the fact that Ford issued a PAS notice about a faulty SATC unit and external temp contol sensor on my model and I was not getting enough heat through the system in the winter and the re-set procedure would not work - I could start the procedure but was not able to dial 50 into the left temp indicator and the system reset to what it was - the temp in and out of the matrix seemes OK so my first step was to try and fix the re-set procedure.

I have repalced the sensor with a new one and the SATC unit with a second hand one and now I have a different problem in that I can not turn the system off - when I turn the left hand knob all the way to the left the auto posiition is active - and as the system will not switch off I can not start the re-set.

I have double checked the ribbon connector fixing and this seems absolutely OK.

I really don't know where to turn, I have tried a two or three garages and the most hopeless was the local Ford dealer - any bright thoughts would be appreciated.

The reason I mentioned the ribbon cable was because if the multi plug is not properly seated then the blower tends to run at full steam regardless of what the control panel is set at.

But as you say, the multi plug is in properly.

Good luck  :)

hi there

it's the electrical connection between the front panel and and module behind it.
looks like a big thin multi-plug.

D8VYR - thanks for the reply

Do you happen to know if the reset procedure worked, and how much and where are you based.

It's a wide, flat gray cable, very similar to the leads used in computers for connecting the CD drives, etc.  On the rear of the control panel it will plug in and has a release tab at each end - these need to be at about 45deg to insert the plug and will snap closed at 90deg when the plug is fully inserted.
