Title: Re: Cosworth Thermastat Post by DJWerkz on Jun 7th, 2007, 1:13pm You would probably be better buying new, well that's my opinion for what it's worth. I replaced mine only recently, my local Ford ealer managed to find me one within a couple of days. |

Title: Re: Cosworth Thermastat Post by DJWerkz on Jun 8th, 2007, 9:23am Yes, mine was not quite £48 but there abouts. It's built into a brass housing and not like a £6 stat you would get from a Motor Factors. As for buying a car with one on that is another idea but then if it's an original unit at best you are going to be looking at a part that's at least 10 years old. In my mind some things are better replaced with OEM parts, especially if they are a little time consuming to change out,...the stat is not real difficult but once you do it you would probably think 'I don't want to be doing this agin in a hurry' lol ;D |

Title: Re: Cosworth Thermastat Post by Simmo on Jun 8th, 2007, 6:29pm Pete, there were some great photos of these units a long time ago when the subject of ballooning radiators was the subject of much analysis. Baz or one of the other senior guys may be able to locate them. Essentially they look very much like a 15mm copper 'T' piece as used in plumbing and at one time were very difficult to obtain. As has been said they are nothing like a 'conventional' stat. |

Title: Re: Cosworth Thermastat Post by petehull on Jun 9th, 2007, 12:36am Looked at the picture, My lad has a vectra with a stat that is built into a housing type of thing, he was told by the vmd that he would not be able to take it apart, they tried to sell him the complete unit for about £57 they said it couldn't be repaired. He was able to open the housing up, contrary to what they had said and he was able to replace the stat for about £4.... Don't know if this is the case with the cossie one..... Interesting ??? Pete |

Title: Re: Cosworth Thermastat Post by Simmo on Jun 9th, 2007, 9:10am Thanks Andrew. I tried to find the article from way back when,I think it was Howied ?, did all sorts of experiments with these units to see if they were the cause of the rad problems. :) |
