Title: Front and rear brake calipers Post by sector-9 on Jun 11th, 2007, 10:12pm RH side needed for 2.5TD - may be the same as the others, not sure. Do need the handbrake mech. to be working on the rear caliper as that's the problem with mine, also no rounded or sheared off bleed nipples please! Darren P.S. I live in Nottingham and would like to collect so would prefer somebody local, but I can travel further afield if needed. |

Title: Re: Front and rear brake calipers Post by sector-9 on Jun 18th, 2007, 12:09am Yep, that's it. However I'm sure Halfords list different brake pads for the diesel compared to the petrol so I'd assume there's a slight difference in the calipers? No idea why there should be though... Darren |

Title: Re: Front and rear brake calipers Post by mazzy_j on Jun 22nd, 2007, 10:25pm if you dont mind waiting a few weeks and the insurance claim has gone through for my poor car i'll have the callipers up for sale probably on here and ebay if no one else can help. The rear callipers on my td are off a 2.3 estate and are vented, straight swap for the solid rear ones if you can get some :) Regards, Matt |

Title: Re: Front and rear brake calipers Post by sector-9 on Jun 24th, 2007, 11:31am Looking at the Halfords pads catalogue, it seems the 2.0/2.3/2.5 all use the same pads (however the 2.9 use different ones) - so I assume the calipers are identical? However, I have solid rear discs, do you know if the calipers are the same for both solid and vented? In any case, I'll definitely need the front caliper as the bleed nipple sheared off when trying to unscrew it, and the back one has rounded off as well as having a seized handbrake mechanism. Title: Re: Front and rear brake calipers Post by mazzy_j on Jun 24th, 2007, 4:41pm Regarding the rear callipers, I think the caliper part which has the piston in are the same (except for the 24v as it has to sit a bit higher due to the slightly bigger disc), but the sliding part which the brake pads sit in is quite a bit wider to accomodate the extra width of the venting gap in the middle of the disc. The mounting holes i believe are all the same, so you could always do what i did and bin the solid disc set up and maybe put on some vented ones off an estate or even the cosworth as a bit of an upgrade? Obviously you would need the discs and pads to suit the engine size it came from but i would certainly recommend it. Matt |

Title: Re: Front and rear brake calipers Post by sector-9 on Jun 24th, 2007, 7:42pm Hmmm, nah! LH rear caliper works fine so I don't really want to be changing the rear discs - seems like an extra expense for practically no benefit. Having said that, if the caliper itself is the same whether vented or solid, and it's just the carrier that's different, then I'd definitely be interested in yours. What kind of prices are you looking at? Darren |

Title: Re: Front and rear brake calipers Post by Scorpio_Mike on Jun 24th, 2007, 8:55pm Rear vented discs are available from www.buypartsby.co.uk for £11.27 each + VAT, delivery is cheap too. |

Title: Re: Front and rear brake calipers Post by sector-9 on Jun 26th, 2007, 6:37pm Yeah but it means buying the caliper carrier for the LH side as well and being as a) it works fine and b) I'm really tight-fisted, I don't want to spend the money. Also vented discs warp easier than solids. Darren |
