Title: Facelift front bumper (or not!!)
Post by r33per on Sep 17th, 2007, 5:26pm
Well, it was quite amazing really. I was just parking in town and all of a sudden the 4x4 infront of me grew a towbar! Suddenly, like the 'tongue' of the Alien, it lashed out and made a gaping hole in my front bumper (http://www.bowlerwell.net/images/P9170018.JPG, 2592x1944). Amazing...

Needless to say, I need a replacement. I have a 1998 S Reg facelift saloon, Auralis Blue.

Thats not a facelift bumper, thats the pre-facelift (easier to find a replacement though) :)

I'd be tempted to try a repair to that though, its not it too bad a position

Interesting. So even though I have a facelift model, it is not the facelift bumper?

Dude, I couldn't repair this sort of thing if my life depended on it. Local bodyshop the best place?

what year was it built? I see it was registered as a S in 98 but probably is an earler build date.

does it have the chrome on the rear rights?
middle headrest and full seatbelt on the rear seat?

Its a prefacelift

The facelift was introduced November 97 so it must have sat in the dealers from before then until August 98 until it was registered..

There are quite a few T and V regs, a couple of W reg's and even a Y reg in the North West ;) but none were built after mid 98

Thanks for the clarification :)

You reckon I'd be better off with a fix it, as opposed to a replace it?

Pah ! Easy fix - my old Granada Scorpio had a damaged bumper - I used 'No-Nails', some thin styrene plastic sheet which I got from a model shop to fill the hole, stuck to the inside of the bumper with the No-Nails and then some good ol' body filler. Rub down and paint. Reckon the repair was stronger than the rest of the bumper. :)

Warning about No-Nails - if you use the super strength stuff, use disposable gloves as if it gets on your fingers and dries it doesn't want to come off...I speak from experience :-[

Heres a facelift Stuart, different Beastie altogether..
Spot the difference in  the bumper with the built in vents beside the lights, darker headlights and altered grille

[]

I repaired one off my old car by cutting an old piece of bumper into thin strips and using them as welding rods to weld the peices back together, I used a high capacity electric soldering iron to melt the 'rod' into the gap after first removing all the paint from the edges.  By careful persiverance I was able to completely rebuild the N/s of the bumper and after my latest fiasco where a woman has smashed my present car the repaired bumper is serving as a temporary replacement..... The car goes in today for repairs....

Any other info required? just holler out.... :D

The fact that his car was stationary is a mere detail...

Well, :-[ in an incredible moment of talent, my bumper is now entirely minced, along with the two offside light clusters. They currently bandaged together with Duct tape , superglue and a poly-pocket...

Anyone got any of these going spare? Colour of bumper is not an issue, although Auralis Blue is preferable.

Thanks, and sorry if the thought of a bashed Scorpio makes you wince...

if you cant find a bumper you might think about getting a whole car and taking off what you want   :) you never know when a post or rhino will hit the rear

Have you checked the paint code, It looks like Cuirass in the pic, Auralis is slightly lighter.
