Title: 7000 radio LCD Post by Jonnycab on Nov 18th, 2008, 1:15am The LCD on my 7000 has now gone permanently blank & it doesn't look as though it's going to come back (been 5 days now) ::) Don't suppose anyone has an old/busted one sitting about that still has a working display ? If so, then I don't want the whole stereo, just the complete front panel (keeps the postage down) so as I can remove the LCD & put it in mine :) |

Title: Re: 7000 radio LCD Post by Baz on Nov 18th, 2008, 8:14am JC, for what they cost; it is probably more cost effective to get a 2nd hand unit from EBay and changing the whole thing. You ma get an LCD panel swap it all over, turn it on and it still not work! Just my thoughts! |

Title: Re: 7000 radio LCD Post by Jonnycab on Nov 18th, 2008, 11:21am Your probably right Baz :)...... I was just hoping that someone might have an old 7000 that lit up fine but maybe had a blown amp/code locked etc, that they could let me have for a few bob. Second hand units on Ebay seem to go for about £45.00 inc postage & unless you get lucky, then there's no guaranty that the LCD won't go blank after a month or two. So was just trying to save a few pennies in these hard times ;) |

Title: Re: 7000 radio LCD Post by peteHull on Nov 18th, 2008, 2:31pm Jon, i have posted about this before.... if you carefully dismantle the front facia so you can get at the lcd window you will find it is just slotted into a groove, you can (and I have) just ease it out of the slot and you will notice contacts etched along the bottom.... if you carefully clean this and the socket with some alchohol (not whiskey or gin) and then refit the glass panel (which by the way is just 2 slithers of glass housing the liquid crystals) make sure it is aligned properly with the gold contacts, then reasemble the whole thing, it should work.... Take your time with this and don't be too heavy handed with it and you should have success.... it also aplies to the little ones on the a/c panel. Even if it doesn't work (mine did) you haven't lost anything, so it is worth a try, plus you get the experience of micro exploration..... ;) Pete |

Title: Re: 7000 radio LCD Post by Jonnycab on Nov 18th, 2008, 11:29pm Might try the old freezer method of trying to fix the LCD ;).....If that still doesn't work then I suppose it's Ebay ;) |

Title: Re: 7000 radio LCD Post by mijfife on Nov 18th, 2008, 11:35pm I tried pete's fix as well but to no avail :( I've settled for having a blank screen & I'm a dab hand at punching in the code when I disconnect the battery ;D Cheers Jim |

Title: Re: 7000 radio LCD Post by Jonnycab on Nov 19th, 2008, 12:07am Hi Jim :)..... as you say, punching in the code is no problem, you just count ;). I remember what radio stations are programmed into what number & I can still play CDs from the changer. But the fact that the screen doesn't display the characters bothers me. I like things to work properly & when they don't I get slightly agitated >:( Being a Scorpio owner, then you can imagine that I get slightly agitated quite alot ;D |

Title: Re: 7000 radio LCD Post by Baz on Nov 19th, 2008, 8:31am JC, I have a few spare 6000 CD radios which are like a CD version of the 7000. You can still put the CD changer in as well. Any good? Baz |

Title: Re: 7000 radio LCD Post by Jonnycab on Nov 20th, 2008, 4:21pm Yee-haw !!!..........I've managed to fix the LCD display :D I removed the radio facia, then the main board, then the LCD housing & then pulled out the plastic ribbon connector from the LCD board & unclipped the LCD screen. Next I put the screen in a freezer bag, then sealed it & put it in the deep freeze 8) 4 hours later I removed the frost bitten culprit from the freezer, reassembled the radio & stuck it back in the car &..........VOILA.......it worked !!!! The radio now has all the LCD characters back on the screen & is working fine :D.....hopefully it will be a long term fix :) |

||
Title: Re: 7000 radio LCD Post by Jonnycab on Nov 25th, 2008, 1:46am What's the one hour option ?....I've not heard of it before ::) My 7000 was blank for just over a week & putting the LCD in the freezer made it work again & it's still working fine now. Not sure why, but it would seem that LCDs seem to right themselves after being subjected to extremely cold temperatures. Mine was in the freezer for about 4 hours, but I did read that they need at least 8 hours (or overnight) in the freezer to really sort them out properly :) |

Title: Re: 7000 radio LCD Post by scorpio_man on Nov 25th, 2008, 9:48am hi jc you can the radio for a hour with the keys out. works of the timer unit, iirc. it's for leaving passengers in the car without them taking a shot of cars!! ;) |
