Hi all,
About 18 months ago I had an oil change done by a garage then another oil change just lately done by a friend of mine who works for FORD Service.

Now he told me that the Sump Plug had been refitted incorrectly and only the barest of the Sump plug threads were securing it (cross threaded) and he said he would do a temp job on it till I get replacement Sump.

So, I could do with getting hold of a 1997 24v Cosworth Sump so that I can feel safe in drivinging my Cossie with fingers crossed that the Sump Plus does not fail...?

I would appreciate it if anybody knows of a Sump for sale.

No need to replace the pan ! just obtain a tap with a suitable plug or sawn off bolt to fit . Old fashioned repair job. :)

Thanks for your posting.

I'm not quite upto speed on the operation that you sugested so can you please expand a little on the procedure (step by step would be very helpful). Also what tools, seals etc. would I would need to do the repair job?

Talk to someone about the loan of a large coarse threaded tap just about 2mm bigger than your drainhole,find a plug or sawn off bolt of the same thread,gently tap out the new thread to take the plug.You may need to start the thread with a tapered tap,then finish it with a plug (parallel) tap.There is a possibility that you may need to drill out the damaged thread first if it is very bad.

A taper tap on it's own would do fine as the thread in the hole is short and the taper tap will be onto it's paralel sides sooner than the thread runs out.

Thanks for that,I presume there is sufficient depth to allow the taper tap right through,I haven't studied the exact angle on the Cossie 8)
