Do you mean The thermal fuse (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/acthermalfuse.htm). If so this might help.  A change of title might help too!!.

Don't Ford still sell them ?.....I don't think they are that expensive. I remember buying one for my old Mondeo (similar looking) a few years ago & it was only about £12.00  :)

Hello..the thermal fuse on my unit has already been replaced at some point and has blown again....after repairing the melted wires I could only use the heater on full speed (setting no 3)...and that has resulted in more melted wires so I think this unit has had it now.
Will try Fords on Monday as I assumed that being Fords it would be expensive to replace...thanks all.

Just been to Fords and here's what they said.....the module (resitor pack) for non AC cars costs £44 inc VAT.....if you have AC then it's £130!!!!!
The parts chap showed me the part for both vehicle type and they are identical.....OUTRAGEOUS.....I am never buying another part from Fords ever again. Chris at Autosave has not got any either so can anyone help. Cheers.

hi there

that's not quite correct.

there is ONE resistor pack for BOTH non air con AND manual air con cars.

the other part is the HBC for climate controled cars.

Confused now,...the part the chappie at Fords showed me wasn't the HBC...it was the small 3 coil resistor pack found at the base of the windscreen on lifting the bonnet.
Trawling the scrappies this wkend.

hi there

the ford data, iirc, doesn't show a diagram of the hbc. just the one for the resistor pack.

that's where i'd think the mix-up occurred.

£44.00  :o......I suppose it was about 10 years ago I bought the Mondeo one & although it looks similar, is probably totally different to the Scorp.

Sorry to build up your hopes like that  ;)

All sorted.....bought a 128 degree rated thermal fuse from wholesalers...cost 79 pence and replaced the old blown one as per the instructions from The thermal fuse link...didn't think the module would work but it seems fine and works on all 3 settings again.
Let you all know how long it lasts....Ahhh....Scorp is nice and warm again

Saved myself £40 plus quids by being halfway handy with a soldering iron.....however...cautionary tale...
If you are going to attempt this repair it is easier to join the new fuse to the old fuse rail using a small screw type electrical conector as the heat from the soldering iron will usually blow the new fuse.....I managed by imersing the whole module in ice cold water covering the new fuse whilst I soldered onto the old fuse rail. Now....electricity and water do not like each other so go down the route of screw conectors.....much safer. ;D 8)
