Title: COSSIE A/C LOW PRESSURE LINE
Post by gerryw on Jan 16th, 2009, 4:55pm
Hi all,

My Scorpio COSSIE (1997) has developed a leak in the valve of the A/C Low Pressure Line (took my COSSIE to Kwik-Fit to regas - £25.00 - but was informed that this part was was leaking).

So, I am looking for a sound S/H replacement part or find somewhere that sells them cheaper that FORDS PARTS (exorbitant).

I would be very grateful if someone could give me some info on the ablve problem?

Regards
Gerryw

I'm not really sure about this  :-/, but after having looked at my low pressure pipe, it looks as though the valve might actually unscrew from the pipe. So you may be able to replace just the valve & not the whole pipe.

I could be wrong though  ;)

If it's just the valve, then they are similar to tyre valves so should be replaceable.

The valve looks like a ball bearing type valve & may leak because it has a bit of dirt/grit stuck around the ball bearing & stopping it from sealing properly  :-/

If the valve does unscrew, then it may be possible to clean any dirt/grit out so that it seals up again.

Then again, I could be wrong again  :-/

But it's a thought though  :)

You should get an A/C specialist to sort this.

It is dangerous and illegal to let the A/C gas vent out - an A/C specialist has the gear to recover the gas, clean it and put it back after sorting the problem.

[]....never attempt do anything on the system unless you're positive there is no pressure in it. So unless you know what you're doing, then best leave it to a specialist  :)

As scorpio mike says, it's illegal to let off refrigerant into the atmosphere & very dangerous....it can freeze your eyeballs  :o

Hi all, just a couple of things...

(1)  Hi Twin-turbo,
Can you let me know when you are breaking your Cossy as I will be looking for various parts i.e. *Cossy sump inc sump plug - Sun roof - Heater Matrix - *A/C low pressure line - Radiator - etc. (* denotes Fords do not stock this item any more)

(2)  Also, I am sure the A/C has no gas in it as Kwik-Fit told me that they could not re-gas it due to the valve leaking so I might be able to do a home repair on it but would welcome anymore advice as to how I should go about carrying out the repair?

Thanks to all the reply posts to my A/C problem!

Cheers
Gerryw :)
