Title: Where to get relays?
Post by wojtekor on Mar 10th, 2009, 2:41pm
Hello!

I'm new to this forum so forgive me if something goes wrong. ;)

Two months ago I bought a stunning 1997 2.3 Ford Scorpio and already made some modifications,  like upgrading the interior to leather with full electrics, but have some problems.

I've renewed both fuse boxes although  they were in perfect condition but I heard that it's better to take care of them to avoid any electrical problems.

Now that I have studied both fuse boxes I want to 'upgrade' my Scorpio putting in a Relay NR 14 for daytime running lights and also need to change the Relay NR 5 as my interior lights are not working since I bought my car.

Here is the questions for you, do you know where can I buy those two specific relays?
I was looking for them on ebay but don't really know if any of those you can get there would suit my car.

Maybe someone here has these two for sale?

Thank you for your time!

Cheers

are you sure your interior light is the relay at fault?

Not sure about the daytime running light relay, unless its the same as another one you might need to get it from Ford

yup, the problem is with the relay, fuses are ok, the timer and wiring are ok so the only thing left is the relay...

i believe that r5 and r14 are different relays...

maybe somebody is breaking a car for spares and has those for sale...?

cheers

What I was trying to say was that R14 will not be in UK models, however it may be the same as one of the other relays

r14 was an option in UK but still can be found in some UK models...
I've seen quite a few UK Scorpios with r14...

but it may be that it's the same as one of the other relays...

is there any other way to get them? i'm afraid that they might be extra expensive when bought directly from Ford...

I've broke a lot and never seen R14 installed or daytime running lights working,
i've tried to get them working using different relays with no success,
I assumed it may need activated by FDS but havent looked into it any further.

uuu, you're worrying... till now I've only heard that it's only a matter of the r14...

Possibly is if you have the correct R14, the ones I tried may have not been the correct type

Title: Re: Where to get relays?

possibly, or the fuse boxes went rusty in r14 sockets as whey were not in use...

Title: Re: Where to get relays?

have you got a spare working r5?

Dont think that is the reason, either the wrong relay or it needs to be activated

so it must be the case of the right relay...

i'm subscribed to the Polish Scorpio Forum and they said that with r14 plugged in it has to work...

Thats what I'd have thought.
Which UK models have you seen it in?

Title: Re: Where to get relays?
Post by wojtekor on Mar 12th, 2009, 2:03am

both believe where form th 96-98 period...

Title: Re: Where to get relays?

And the lights worked on them?

Title: Re: Where to get relays?
Post by wojtekor on Mar 12th, 2009, 2:22am
yup... they were fully working...

and like i said i spoke to those guys on the polish forum and every single one of them said that with a proper r14 relay it is working no matter what the model is. they said that they all have upgraded their Scorpios just by putting in this relay and it worked for them...

I guess everything should be working with a right relay but where to get one... apart from Ford, as it may be too expensive...
has anyone seen such things on ebay for example?

Does R5 work the interior light?
It gives it as heated rear screen in my handbook.

Just had a look at my car and it is interior light (often wondered why there were 2 heated rear window relays).

Hi wojtekor,

pardon my asking but as a matter of interest what is a

Scorpio Ghia-X 2.3 V6 16v Automatic Saloon '97?

- X as in 4WD? I was looking for 4WD in the latest SCorpio's  but no luck so far... thought they stopped doing 4WD... and 2.3 V6:  6-cyl 16v?
Curious,
Ray

Ghia X is the spec level

They didnt do the 95- Scorpio in 4 wheel drive only the earlier Granada.

I expect the V6 part is a typo or wishful thinking ;)

Post by wojtekor on Mar 13th, 2009, 2:11pm
Cosray yup Ghia X is the spec level like Highlander said.

There's a typo indeed with this V6... my bad. It was laaate night when I was writing my personal text... didn't even notice the typo till now myself
