Title: Re: XR4X4i Gearbox Post by Gazza_UK on Jun 4th, 2009, 7:50pm ;) carefull on these as the 2.8 and 2.9 box's are differant ? The 2.8 (type 9 ) and the 2.9 (MT75) will not interchange due to the starter motor positions but to get it to fit the cossie I have no idea if they will fit unless some one has already done one on here if so :-[ :-[ :-[ this is my type 9 one http://trackside.co.uk/albums/gearbox.jpg |

Title: Re: XR4X4i Gearbox Post by GrumpyOne on Jun 6th, 2009, 4:41pm Thanks everyone for your help. I have managed to get a diesel Scorpio box from a breaker which I have sent to a contact Highlander gave me and he has the other half to make me a converted MT75 box. The transport company that was collecting my donor car let me down last week and didn't collect the car, promised me he will collect this Monday :( Anyone in the Aberdeen area that knows how to get a BOB engine out with the minimum of fuss and is free next weekend, I would welcome the help, and I will make sure my wife doesn't cook anything for you ;D Thanks Colin |

Title: Re: XR4X4i Gearbox Post by Highlander on Jun 6th, 2009, 5:16pm The engines easy, its the loom that takes the time :) engine and box best removed from below, dropping the entire subframe is your best bet, depends on your facilities really, if the cars not being reused i usually just cut off the front end and pull the engine and box out that way :) |

Title: Re: XR4X4i Gearbox Post by GrumpyOne on Jun 7th, 2009, 9:40pm }{ I like it, don't know if my neighbours would though. But I think you are right this looks like the way to go. I need the engine out in a hurry but the rest I can take my time over. Seems a shame to do that to a 98 car though :( Cheers Colin |

Looks like you have the optional 'weight saving' front passenger door ;D What size angle grinder do you use for surgery on that scale ? |

Title: Re: XR4X4i Gearbox Post by Highlander on Jun 8th, 2009, 12:03am Stihl saw ;D Its handy this way, you dont need to raise the car up over the engine, just wheel the engine lift in and out, ideal on a drive ;) |
