Title: NEW Water Pump for Cosworth Needed!
Post by dml316 on Sep 10th, 2009, 2:27pm
Help!

I'm having water pump hell!

The original water pump on my 98 Cosworth has died - and was leaking water through the spindle seals.

I grabbed one online, which was advertised as a 24v model, but it was a 12v model....£50 down.

Then I got a used (albeit looked good) one, spent a few hours getting the thing fitted - and the seal in the spindle is shot and that's no better than I started with!
Now £125 down.

I'm waiting on a few places to come back to me to see if they can obtain a NEW one - but if anyone has one, or knows where they can be bought...Money is no longer an object....this bloody car will be going back on the road no matter what.

Thanks all...

hi there

this might help you with the 12v pump that you bought.

Thanks Scorpio Man,

I may come back to this if I get completely stuffed, but the prefernce would be to get the correct part if I can find one - or look at feasibility of getting bearing/seal replaced on one of my growing collection of originals.

If any originals are around somewhere - despite the cost - I'll still get one.

Got one!  Trevor at FordParts UK is a legend!
He had one in a box, but even went to the trouble of taking photos of the part (front and back) to make sure it was the correct 24v piece.
Highly recommend those guys to anybody looking for new Scorp parts...

All that remains now is to remove the 2nd broken water pump and fit the shiny new one....and hope for no more leaks!

Hi Darren,

just out of interest what did the legend take for it? :)

Think it was £126...but the VAT man stepped in and took his 15%..

Not cheap - but if I'm going to spend another few hours taking the other one off and refitting a new one - at least I can have 'some' comfort that the internal seal/bearing 'should' be OK.

So - £150 for new pump, £75 for S/H, £50 for 12v one = £275.
Value of car.... £600!   :)

Why not seriously explore the possibility of a re-furb on the two you have?. May be a way to recover some of your outlay and ,as you know only too well, ;) they are a sought after item!.

Good idea Simmo - I'll try and get my dosh back on the 2 I bought - but the original that failed is definately a candidate for rebuilding.
If I can find somewhere that does it...I'll get it done.
Then I'll offer it up here in case anyone else finds themselves in the situation I was in.

Thanks all...

Ye of little faith!

If I find myself back in the same boat, I'll buy another Scorp!
