Title: Clips
Post by PJDavis on Dec 30th, 2009, 1:44pm
Hello All.

I finally removed the Climate Control switch facia to replace two of the bulbs.   Unfortunately I also found that two of the holding clips were in the wrong way, and when I tried carefully to bend them back the right way they both blasted snapped!

So, does anyone have a couple of those funny looking clips that hold the CC facia panel on, or can I get them from Ford, I would even buy a whole spare CC panel if thats how you want to sell it.

Peter.

I now have high hopes for the clips and bulbs as a whole from my local Ford dealer!   The clips come in packs of 10, as do the bulbs.   The bulbs are complete in the holder.  I'll be happy in a few days!

I've just had my climate control module out and one of the clips snapped. I've managed to pack the unit with kitchen role which seems to have done the job!

Was your unit very difficult to get out? I had to use a large amount of force and marked the wooden surround. I think someone before had taken the unit off and bent the clips in the process etc.

The trick to getting the C/C unit out without damaging the plastic walnut is to remove the dash screws, pull the dash out a few inches & press the clips down from behind.....

But it's alot easier to get out next time if you remove 2 of the clips so that it's only held in with the other 2 clips.....that's what I did.

It still stays in fine & when you want to remove it, you just pull on the control knobs & out it comes  :)

Ford were ok about the bulbs and offered to just sell me the three I wanted, however I opted to take the pack because the Storeman I know said that as soon as Ten years is passed since the last registered cars, a lot of the small items like this become unavailable.

There was only two clips fitted on mine, the other two were broken and this allowed the panel to rattle slightly at a certain rev'.   The person before had definitely fiddled with this panel and put it back in with the broken clips and the working clips bent back on themselves to make the panel stay in place.   I'll see what happens when I get the stuff and fit it all back together.

Mondeoman, if you want a clip then pm me with your address and I'll send one.

My local motor factor stocks them, so they must be common to other cars  ;)

Not sure what FMD charges, but my local motor factor does them for 80 pence each  :)

Aye Jonny, Dingbro locally didn't have in stock and couldn't get the clips anyways.   Dingbro checked their network and could only get the 12V 2W bulbs, I thought it best to stick to the 1.2W bulbs that apparently are a good bit harder to get.   Partco up here are a bunch of twits!   My local Ford dealer are pretty good, and their prices are ok, or people just won't use them!

Bruce. The fascia panel also untilises plastic 'clips' to hold it steady so go easy and 'feel' your way round once the screws are out.....don't do a 'Bruce' and just yank it!!. ;D.  Happy New Year, Mike. :D
