The 12v was discontinued around 1996,when the petrol cars all had the full electronic box,the 12v box carried on with the diesels controlled by the old EEC 1V pcm.As far as I am aware the box remained the same, however some of the diesel owners will know for sure,Highlander,Shooshyneman et al ?.

I dont know,

I had always assumed that the diesel autobox was the same as the 12v indeed it does says that on the main site in the Ford literature

However, Bill (Shooshyneman) reckons they have a different box and as he has three of them I would think he knows more than most of us ;D

I'd never even seen a diesel autos till I saw his at Harewood last year..

The fully electronic (later) box has an overdrive button on the selector lever and two buttons near the lever E economy mode, and S sport mode, the early box has a vacuum unit on the offside, the pipe to which runs from the engine down over the bell housing,it also has an electric kickdown solenoid on the nearside controlled,at least on the 12 valve,by a switch interposed in the accelerator cable on the engine.

If yours is a Diesel  the valve block in the 12v box will be different  as they are set to the type of engine so that the changes are made within the engines "powerband "

ive got a feelin that mine has the wrong box !!
i have all the electric plugs, kick down solenoid  etc no overdrive button or snow or sport i know what ya mean cos ive had a couple of 24vs

i need to source myself a diesel auto box !! to be sure cos it aint right . the guy i brought it off said it had had another gearbox 4 years ago but i dont think its had a diesel box fitted ????
and if the box is from the wrong model im guessing that the gearchanges wont be right anyway as the diesel has totally different tourqe ranges ?

any body got a diesel ulitma auto box ??
cheers

Stixy.
We need advice from Dave the auto man, would it not be far more logical for the PCM to control the timing of the valve block since the oil is diverted by it to the various clutches etc,the A4LDe (early) box has two solenoids inside it which are electronically actuated, one of the deciders being the speed sensor ?

The 12v box has a 3 pin lockup plug so only 3-4 4-3 and lockup is controled by the pcm but nothing else
i dont know about the diesel as i have never seen one . Dave will know though

LOL out of all the hundreds of Scorpio Autos I've done over the years, I've never seen a Diesel Scorpio Auto.

I doubt that the 12V box will work correctly, as the 3-4 shift and the Lock up is electronically controlled.....Someone else has already correctly said this  ;)

I'm pretty sure the Diesels are full hydraulic control, with no solenoids at all internally.

I'd get the proper diesel box to be certain, or send me a complete dead diesel unit and I'll rebuild it for you.

HTH Cheers Dave

Thanks Dave, that may be the early Granada 3 box then with a two pin plug rather than three,I think there is still one in my shed from the Coleman Milne Mk 7 era,ie the pre cat/airbag Mk3 Granada, the later one,Mk 8 (pre Scorpio) having the same as the Scorpio (Mk 9).

goldie.
If it turns out to be a two pin early Mk3 Granada box,you can have the one lurking here gratis. We need further investigations,my auto man is very illusive, however I have his Christmas money here, and expect him to surface soon  ;) when he does I will get him to check the archives. You don't say where you are in your profile ?

Goldie / Guys,

Been speaking to some other Auto Gurus ;)

The easiest way to do this is if Goldie can get a Metrocab diesel box, they have no solenoids inside at all, and the calibration in the valve block will suit, also earlier transit diesel auto box, but you will need to change the front bellhousing carefully, and if using a Transit box also change the governor inside the rear extension housing for a "car" one, one out of a 12v box will do ;)

HTH Dave

I,m no help I've only seen the diesel autobox. Which didn,t come out until 1997 thats why its rare! I was under the impression it was different to all the others but have been told it is the same hybrid box as  the V6 12V cologne engine. I beleive that the 4th gear and converter lock up clutch is controlled bythe PCM in the case of the diesel the older EEC1V It is  the A4LDe  Mine cruises at 70 at just over 2000rpm the petrol engine must rev much higher so something must be different?
