Stixy.
I've got a basic (rubbery) wheel here,do you need the centre with airbag ? it's been separated but I may be able to find it.

Can someone who knows please explain about the airbag and the MOT? If I replace my airbag with a non-airbag s/wheel, will it still be MOTable?

When/if it becomes too expensive to replace the airbag, can we use something like a Granada s/wheel or will we have to throw the car away?

the airbag is not part of the MOT test therefore an illuminated airbag light is not a fail, (at least not yet)

although it can be mentioned as an advisory.

Ford recommend replacing the airbags after 15 years and all the ones I've taken out have a 2010 expiry date on them so we're past our sell by date.

Ford still stock new ones although they also have a 2010 expiry date :)

No problems  with changing the steering wheel though, just remove or disconnect the bulb to tidy it up.

There was talk of manufacturers trying to make it compulsory for expired airbags to be replaced but so far nothing has come of it.

If that law were ever to be introduced all our Scorpios would instantly be put of the road for good. (good business if you're a car manufacturer)

I have tried Granada wheels and they are different  , the steering lock ring is internal where the Scorpio is external

Cant even take the airbag bulb out as its one of the non replaceable bulbs but i spose the wire to it could be earthed out etc ?

Out of date airbags still go bang when fired  but i had one passenger airbag that diddnt which was a worry as i had to back to it   :-/ bit like a firework that hasnt gone off after its been lit
