Anyone got a rear passenger side brake caliper. with working handbrake spigot.
for a 2.3 ghia estate 1996

Estate rear brakes should be vented discs - caliper is different to solid disc set up found on 2.0 & 2.3 saloons, although a while back I did see a very late S reg 2.3 saloon with vented rear discs a local chap broke up.

Hi guys,
Thanks leewar, and yes Mike you are right the discs are vented,if anybody has one it is getting urgent, test in a few weeks and handbrake siezed, tryed to free it but only lasts a couple of days.

Yes I have done this twice now, it works for about a week then starts sticking again,I will give it a good go this weekend and drown it in wd40

Hi Guys,
Had a go at freeing caliper, it worked for a while but hs now started sticking again.
So Has anyone got a passenger side caliper for my 1996 estate 2.3 ghia, it has vented discs ???

Mike. It is a known feature made worse if the car is an Auto and the driver does not use the handbrake but leaves the vehicle in park. The mechanism self adjusts on a coarse threaded 'screw' to take up wear in the pads. That's why you have to wind back the rear caliper pistons rather than simply push them back. If you look in 'How to do Things' Here (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=admin;action=display;num=1268993371) you'll find an exploded lay out of the caliper which may help you to understand. It is a complicated design and because there is a seal at the top of the fulcrum rod where it enters the caliper it is a real struggle to get lubricant in there once it has corroded. :(

Tell me about it, I have tried to get nearly a can full of wd 40 down into that baby, but it still siezes.
Has nobody got a spare caliper they can sell me please.

Bob. Have you tried the 'lever it up' and 'knock it back down' method with bolt slackened off? If you have you may need to remove the bolt which MIGHT just give you a bit more of a chance. You'll need to replace the spring and this is best done with strong cord and a piece of wood as a lever against the caliper. BE CAREFULL and watch your eyes!. The 'shaft' will not come out BUT that extra bit of up and down movement together with leverage back and forth...I use a Stilson...may just get you out of trouble until you can source a replacement.
