Title: shut off loom Post by Andycan on Oct 2nd, 2012, 12:36pm Hi all winter is drawing close and my cracked loom is getting worse with the dampness. Has anyone got a spare shut off loom for a 2.0i scorpio? I am happy to renovate one if there are any articles on here to tell me how. |

Title: Re: shut off loom Post by Mike H on Oct 2nd, 2012, 4:13pm May or may not help but if plugs are OK, I rewired mine by soldering new wires onto the shortened plug wires then sleeving the joint with heatshrink, then again with heat resistant sleeving overall |

Title: Re: shut off loom Post by Andycan on Oct 6th, 2012, 10:20pm I have the whole lot but thought I saw somewhere on here that if you soldered the wires that it played havok with the voltages running through the wires or was that just sensor wires? |

Title: Re: shut off loom Post by Simmo on Oct 7th, 2012, 7:54am The wires could be of different sizes. Have a look at This site (http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/VWP-onlinestore/home/homepage.php) which covers just about every one you'll need. :) |

Never heard of that before. Soldering is THE best connection you can get (if done properly) so don't know what that's about. Anyway in this case it's only to run the coils, no sensors involved. Apart from camshaft sensor, had to solder new wire for that, works OK. I just used spare all-purpose 6 - 8 Amp stranded wire from my 'stock' ;D Biggest problem is cleaning the strands of the shortened original plug wires (still attached) as they will be well tarnished, combination of age & heat; I scraped every separate strand shiny with a penknife then dipped in liquid flux. |

Title: Re: shut off loom Post by Stixy on Oct 11th, 2012, 1:55pm If you solder the wires for the idle speed control valve it wont work also if you solder the wires for the crank position sensor it wont run Ive done it ;) then did it again using brass cable crimps and had no problem |
