Title: Auto Dimming Mirror
Post by Daniel on Apr 7th, 2013, 10:50am
Hi everyone
My uncle has a S reg XJ8 and the mirror needs changing. It looks identical to the Scorpios so i imagine its the same. Has anyone got one? Matt is having a look to see if he has one but if not can anyone else let me know if they have any with a price please. I will then forward to my uncle and get back to you asap.
Cheers
Dan  :)

Mine went and I fitted one from a bmw. You would need the mount from the glass, but it was an easy job

Daniel, to be honest I'd be looking at fitting one from a newer car - one from an even older car might not last long.

The mirror in my '95 XJ finally died last year, with some ingenuity one from an '07 S-Type fitted (cost £30 on eBay). The same would go for a Scorpio, I'd just get one for a later Mk3 Mondeo and spend some time making that fit.

Hell, the new mirror I fitted to my Rover 75 actually came from an '08 Saab yet you'd never tell the difference ;D

Most of these things are made by the same company regardless of the car they're fitted to, so things like the ball joint where the mirror body attaches to the mounting bracket tend to be the same size etc. Just fit the new mirror on the old mount and sort the wiring if it's different.

All the ones I've done (I've done quite a few including a couple of Fords) have the same inputs (switched live, ground and reverse signal which goes high to prevent the mirror dipping when you select reverse), if you know where the connections go on the new mirror, you can make it work.

Bruce :).

I think you'll find they are made by Donnelly, a part of Magna now by the looks of it. ;)
