Title: Sunroof  & heater control panel please?
Post by GrahamT on Oct 14th, 2014, 2:00am
Hi, looking for a good sunroof, only need the glass (and seal!). Mine is very rusty. I know, rocking horse doodoo but ever hopeful!
Just wondering, has anyone looked into other sunroofs like Mondeo, Focus etc. to see if they use the same glass? Anyone got any idea who actually makes the sunroof?

I'm also after a good condition non climate control heater panel (the basic version) please chaps. There are a few on ebay but they all seem to be for left hand drive cars with the screen switches on the left instead of the right  :-(

Thanks for any help with these parts,
Graham

Not sure but the Sierra sunroof may be the same (at least on the 4x4)

Mk3 Granada sunroof should be the same - but not many of these around now so probably an internet search for car breakers ???
Saw a Mk3 Granada out on the road last week - nice turquoise metallic colour, looked to be in very good condition, ages since I last spotted one.
Might have a base heater control somewhere.

The Mk 3 Granada is the same, but very hard to find in good nick. I looked at early mondeo ones, but they wont fit. I did get a motor off a high spec mondeo which fitted the scorp. What about a jag sunroof, its a mondeo body. ::)

I looked at a jag s type in a yard and the fixing screws are a lot different. A later mondeo looks a lot like a scorp one :)

Found a sunroff  :)  on a scrapped Sierra Sapphire Cossie  :(

Numbers are almost identical. Difference is probably the shade. Sierra one looks slightly greenish.
I've fitted it but the seal, although it is good, is just too tight. It won't drive past the closed position and it sounds like the gears are beginning to strip  >:(

It also looked like there was a lot of adjustments on the mechanism so I guess they were set up in the factory. Is there a guide for this anywhere?

Cheers,
Graham

PS still looking for a basic heater control panel  ;)

There are a couple of links to the sunroof (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/sunroof.htm). Try this one and then check the 'buttons' on the left of the page for others. :)

Thanks Simmo. I think there is a lot that we don't know though. For instance on the picture annotated "Control Cable Oil Here" there is a piece held in with 3 screws. On it there is clearly some vernier marks with corresponding marks on the piece next to it. Also, the arms holding the wind deflector have been "adjusted" by bending them so the arms slide under the mechanism, rather than getting caught like mine now seem to be. I think it will be a case of trial and error if I can get the roof to pass through the hole on it's own rather than using something subtle like a cricket bat  ;D

From what I remember the vernier simply adjusts it fore & aft so depends on what you mean by too tight.
If the fixings are the same you could just swap the glass & seal or take it off & see how well it fits the aperture. Not sure without looking but I think it’s 3 screws each side & the one in the middle at the front under the plastic cover. Trouble is the screws tend to rust into the sides (the bits that raise up) which are threaded inserts in the plastic. The screws are very soft so you need a well fitting preferably new screwdriver. You can get at the backs of the screws to try penetrating oil.
If it’s fitted to the car you need to be able to tilt it to get at the screws from inside the car.
