Title: Fuel Tank Straps
Post by PJDavis on Apr 14th, 2016, 8:52am
Hello All.

I'm hoping to put a new fuel-tank onto my 2.3 saloon.   Ford don't do the straps anymore, so if anyone has a half decent pair of straps, I'd be grateful.   I suppose I could make a pair, but it would be a lot easier just to clean-up a decent-enough pair.   Here's hoping!

Peter

Peter. These (http://www.screwfix.com/p/sabrefix-roll-edge-restraint-strap-bend-500-x-100mm-5-pack/85398) may help if your request yields no result. ;)

Or this : http://www.screwfix.com/p/sabrefix-builders-band-galvanised-dx275-20mm-x-9-6m/38619

You will be lucky to find used tank straps which are any good - pushing 20 years old now anyway. They are only mild steel and quite thin.
Rusting fuel tank straps is a problem I've had on previous Ford cars too.

Thanks very much guys.   Those could save me a lot of forming work.   I particularly like the galvanised stuff.   Someone told me that one of the two straps is still available from Ford, but it's about £100 just for the one!

I used some stainless steel bought from ebay when I redid my straps.  Loop one end over to got through the "tang" towards the front of the car end and right angle the other and drill an 8mm hole for the bolt.  Do one side at a time and support the tank with a piece of wood and a jack.

I might start making up some stainless straps if the originals are getting hard to find.
