Title: Rear Hub Carrier and Bearing
Post by Technology2005 on Jul 8th, 2016, 11:20am
Need a rear hub carrier and bearing assembly for the drivers side of my 2.0 16v Saloon.

Does anyone have a decent spare one for sale and if so how much posted to York?

Thanks,

David

Thanks Mike, think I got one last time from you as well :) (different car, same side - must be the roads in York or my driving!  ;D )

Just checked - either you - or someone else from this site - must have had my last spare or else it has been moved somewhere.

Fairly sure Mk3 Granadas & rear disc braked Sierras use the same part if that helps.
May possibly have 1 from a Sierra in my other shed but it will be buried at the back.

I have a brand new hub & stub axle spare if you need them.

I was afraid you'd say I probably had your last spare.

How much do you want for the new hub carrier and stub axle?

David

Drop me a PM with an offer.
Just to be clear, the hub is the bit with the internal splines which goes through the bearing carrier & has the flat plate which the wheel gets bolted to, the stub axle is the bit which has the external splines which the CV joint bolts onto. Hope that makes sense & avoids any confusion !

You're right about my confusion Mike!

From my previous expereince with this repair (having thought about it) I needed a hub last time, but the carrier was probably ok.

I guess I just need to strip the assembly down and see which parts have been destroyed as the bearings broke up.

In the meantime if anyone does have the full assembled carrier and hub available it may save me some time!

David

I think taking it apart and having a good look at the parts is probably a good idea to see what is damaged - you might be lucky and just need a new bearing - don't forget to get a new locking nut for the stub axle, and you will need to torque it up correctly.

When I had a rear n/s bearing fail some years ago I had to replace the bearing carrier and the hub as both were damaged by the bits of broken bearing. I was fortunate to have a complete assembly in my spares stash and fixed it in under an hour.

Luck doesn't usually go my way when it comes to car repairs :)

I just checked with Ford on the price of a new hub....should it be needed and it's an eye watering £228.76 inc. VAT  :o

I'm crossing my fingers and eyes and toes now!

I seem to recall that the sierra one also fits.
Those parts are cheaper than Scorpio parts!!!!!!!!!!

Good to see you Lee. Don't tell me you've managed to still hide some bits from the missus!

I think you are right Snoopy - one day I'll have to dig a Sierra part out of my 'other' shed and compare them.
Not sure the Sierra parts are that much easier or cheaper to find these days as they are still highly sought after by  kit car builders and Sierras are also popular trackday cars. I also think these hubs were used on some TVR cars.
Seen a few of these hubs listed on ebay for quite strong £'s recently.

Hi Simmo, Been very busy. Bits are stashed in the gararge, missus won't go there because of the spiders ::)
