Title: Large instrument bulbs
Post by brds on Jun 29th, 2018, 8:51am
In the process of pulling all the dash out to change the heater matrix - thankfully all done now after 30 hours work, I'm taking the opportunity to solder the dodgy air bag pins on the instrument cluster and change all the bulbs but I can't find any of the large ones Finis 6 329 989 (4 off). Does anybody have some?

I got mine from the local car parts place and I am sure I saw some on ebay.

Local auto shop doesn't have any. I got a set of the small ones from a very helpful guy on eBay. I'm trying a LED for the clock as I found one with a matching base. As a last resort I may have to try the local Ford dealer. Can anybody confirm if the Galaxy has same bulbs.

You can pull the bulb out of the plastic holder. It's capless like a sidelight bulb but 5W is too hot & damages the housing, I used 2W.

Thanks Torbayboy, I don't know the wattage but the Finis is 6 329 989.
That particular eBay item doesn't quote the power for 10mm bulbs but another item for similar bulbs quotes them as 1.2W which seems a reasonable power. Qty 20 is cheap so I'll try them. I've never thought of the Scorpio as a Fruit Machine before!
Simmo, Tks, the ref is the info I've been using to do the job, along with the guides on changing the matrix and fixing the air bag light - all excellent documents.

Glad to help, unfortunately Fruits are another failing of mine, not as big as Scorpios so I can hide more of them.
The wattage was the uncertain bit but I knew they were 2w or less not 5w as the tail lights are.
Let me know how it works out I have loads here will check the wattage on them ater

Having looked at these eBay items they look far too big, physically, to me?  That might just be the picture though. The rating might be OK but are you sure dimension wise?
I've just found an old one and it measures 18.39mm top to bottom. The filament enclosure is 11.54mm and the diameter is 4.84mm. The insert base is 2.77mm thick x4.84 wide.
The bulb is round rather than flat as in a standard 12v 5w 501 capless.

Hi, back after a few weeks away. New bulbs arrived and small ones were OK as they were the same part.
The fruit machine bulbs were exactly the same size and shape as the existing large bulbs but rated as 12V, 0.1A and measured as 12 ohms whereas the existing bulbs measured as 5 ohms so the new bulbs would be less than half their power.
The old bulb filaments looked OK so I cleaned their wire contact & holders and put them back.
All this is now unfortunately academic as despite using anti-static precautions, the auxiliary warning microprocessor has failed so I now need a new unit - query posted under advice needed.

I don't imagine many people take any anti-static precautions with these, I never have. What is it that's not working?
