Title: Scorpio Ultima 1996 Autobox went bang
Post by and11 on May 12th, 2009, 12:41pm
FOR SALE - SPARES OR REPAIR

Gutted this has happened at worsed possable time but my autobox has gone forcing me to look for a banger for now. Paid £700 couple of month ago and was looking forward to fitting new bumper and boot (£40 both), as my partner reversed into post, and sorting gearbox niggle out but too late. This car was best i've driven including bmw, audi's of same year but i simply dont have time or money to sort autobox out.I also got offer on here for raplacment box for £50 but i cant even get from a to b at mo. Any reasonable offers considered, full leather and electric pack all working fine too. Mot just out but was confident off a pass, taxed untill 31/07.

2.3 Ultima, not Cosworth, in Leeds. 73000 miles on clock with very smooth running engine and immaculate interior. just serviced.

Whats the exact problem with it? I've heard of a few (and bought) a few Scorpios with "broken autoboxes" only to find out it is something minor

Hi, well i did get some advice on the prob from this forum but their was a small autobox oil leak which i fixed but the change from second to third remained the same, would rev high before changing. Also it would take around 3 seconds to go into gear when D was selected and even then would somtimes just pull away very slowly so i found that selecting 2nd it would go straight in albeit with a bit of a thump. Anyway i pulled onto a fast road and tried to boot it more than normally, revs went way too high, not as far as red line, then bang it went into gear. Sounded like somthing broke in their so now i cant get any gears just noise changes from revs on each selection. Just before i put selector back into P, a rather strange rattling noise occurs. :-[
