Title: Re: FORD SCORPIO GHIA X TD AUTOMATIC Post by Robin.M on Jul 31st, 2009, 5:43pm Hi there I saw this car in a driveway less than 100 yards from my house and I thought it looked a damm good.car. I have just sold my 2.3 98 reg Ultima that was as new, due to the cost of petrol and the mileage I do (the buyer paid the full asking price without any questions) - I had the car for 5 years. In the meantime I bought a one owner 'W' reg Citroen XM 2.1 diesel auto with only 64K on the clock. I went from North London to Falkirk (420 miles) to buy it and six weeks later I saw your thread. Went to see the car (walked 100yards) and it was better than the pictures and there is nothing like cash in you hand to drive a bargin, irrespective of ebay - let him feel the cash in his hand, basicaly one owner (I have spoken to the original owner to confirm all is as it should be) brand new tyres, excellent clean body both inside and out. Now what to do - keep both I think so - but which to drive. My wife thinks I am mad but who cares I am 'Scorpioed' again and life is great . Only problem the sunroof is slightly hesitant but the problem can be is no more than a new motor and some elbow grease Robin.m |

Title: Re: FORD SCORPIO GHIA X TD AUTOMATIC Post by pinto on Aug 4th, 2009, 8:37pm Robin, if I can give you one word of advice, it would to be to rid yourself of the XM as soon as you possibly can. I had exactly the same 2.1 TD lump, only fitted into a 406 Executive; it was a fabulous car, ran beutifully and the engine was sweet and powerful. That was until one day, it just decided it didnt want to run any more - and from that day on, it became a nightmare of useless part changes, failed fix attempts and endless money poured down the drain - in fact, the words " Lucas EPIC" still cause me to break into a cold sweat. Truly the WORST combination of diesel engine management and fuel pump ever devised by man - and pretty much the most expensive too. Add to the mix citroens legendary suspensions and vehicle electrics..... you get the picture :) |

load of BS :D there were now 9 french cars in my family peugeots and renaults and have never ever developed a problem... but they were only petrol engines and always bought new.... other then that it all depends on how you take care of your car... |

Title: Re: FORD SCORPIO GHIA X TD AUTOMATIC Post by tlundkvi on Aug 11th, 2009, 7:43am ... and cannot agree more on that. Some say e.g. 3-series (E46) is a ticking bomb, while I had one other than some minor things such as door seals, lamp glass, an ignition coil etc. replaced under warranty, nothing but tires and brake pads. Same goes for my prev. '03 TDI Passat, outside regular service only a foglight grille was replaced and that was because of a rabbit (oh almost forgot the wheel alignment I one had done). Talked to the next owner 100K later (had it till 120K km), said the A/C needed to be filled and the charger belt was replaced. Another story is the cars I've bought used, but you can't do much about previous owners, can you. And cars do wear. |

Title: Re: FORD SCORPIO GHIA X TD AUTOMATIC Post by Robin.M on Aug 11th, 2009, 8:36pm Hi there Slight up-date. The XM went for an MOT and they managed to jump the cambelt (it just happend sir)- I towed the car home & removed the cyl head - no damage but fitted new exhaust valves, re-built the cam shaft + usual new parts and had the Injectors re-set at Bennetts in Watford - now perfect. As to the Scorpio apart from steam pressure wash underneath - any signs of rust done and finished with 4 coat's of Waxoyl, new engine & gearbox oil (sump removed)- that's the hard work. I am tempted to remove the head, re-seat the valves + new o-rings etc and have the injectors re-set. Compared to the XM its a doddle - might start next week Wife only just talking to me but I must keep the XM I need the estate car for work (4 cars on the drive) Scorpio does look good though and does it go -wow Robin |
