Title: Nightmare Ultima 24 V Auto Estate for free
Post by Noddy on Aug 3rd, 2009, 6:56pm
Much as I love Scorpios (this is my second), I am now convinced that green ones are possessed by the devil. My first one was written off on the motorway.
This car can be taken away, preferably by a Scorpio fan (would evidence of ownership of another one be practical?).
There are too many good and potentially expensive spares to hand the sodding thing over to a breaker, and I know that spares are hard to come by.

Details
Good things:
1995 2.9 Scorpio Ultima 24V Auto Estate. Taxed 03/2010. Tested 10/2009.
Great engine, gearbox, running gear. 5 alloys with good Pirellis. New Radiator, water pump. Good battery. No rust. Had just had a completely new wiring loom when I bought it off its only other owner in 2006 (but read on…).

Bad things (small selection!):
-Attracts other vehicles to run into it whilst it’s stationary. Front and rear bumpers broken and gaffer-taped. Replaced Driver door- looks reasonable. Even an empty warehouse trolley came barrelling down a slope and damaged front nearside wing (dent beaten out). Internally seats, dash etc undamaged but neglected, ashtray – full!
-Washers work when they like.
-Wipers work courtesy of a chunk of 2.5mm copper wire instead of a fuse.
-Air con – gave up on that.
-Speedometer 50% out. How the hell does that happen? Got me a speeding ticket (I was doing 35mph but the car was doing 54mph!!!).
- Was going to give it away last month when one of you could have driven it away, but didn’t get around to it. What a mistake!! Battery started to discharge over about 2-day period – probably something trivial (seems ok if its not locked) but I’m not inclined to find out, having spent too much on it already. Then lo and behold (as though it knew my plans for it) it decided to let me start it (every time, first turn of the engine) but as soon as the accelerator is pressed it cuts out.
- basically it needs someone who has a degree in electrical engineering and a new fusebox and a sense of humour. It is definitely serviceable. A lovely car that needs an exorcist.

If interested, it’s in Birmingham – The Spotted Dog, Warwick Street, B12 0NH. E-mail me on johntighe@birminghamirish.com. If you want to keep the tax I’ll expect that to be paid for. If there is competition to buy it, half of any money realised will go to Acorns Children’s Hospice (my pub’s pet charity).
I would prefer it to go to one of you Scorpio nutters, but, if I’ve had no interest in the next week, say, by Monday 10th, it’s off to the breakers.

I would prefer to not waste my time replying to people who are not genuinely interested.

Over to you.
John

Hi Mark,
Got the e-mail. I'll ring you tomorrow. It's yours to take away. Don't know if you can get it started at the side of the road because it ticks over but dies when you accelerate. I'll ring you tomorrow.
Cheers,
John

It appears that it's going on its holidays to North Wales, ironically only a few miles from where my first one crashed, where Mark will dismember it and stop it haunting me. Cheers all.
