Title: £1200 and rising
Post by Highlander on Apr 13th, 2010, 7:14pm
Looks quite a tidy 24v facelift and has reached a good price, although at £1200 it hasn't yet reached the reserve..

will be interesting to see what the winning bid is..

Wow, it's up to £1500 now, I don't think a Cossie on Ebay is worth that much.

Call me cynical but I get wary when I see bidders with low feedback bidding early and high ;)

Seems to have reached the reserve of 1500?

Will be interesting to see if it is relisted ;)

I've spent more than that to keep mine in perfect order, except for some parking lot dents.

I wouldn't pay that much for a car i can only see a tiny bit of,

who knows what condition the front of it is in as no pics, same to with the seats, doesnt state whether its leather or cloth and maybe its just me or the way the photo has been taken but it seems to be leaning on the off side rear ? doesnt even have the scorpio wording on the tail lights :P

went to pick the car up today 200 mile round trip, it was not as described auto box oil was brown and smelt like chip fat, the pic on ebay was hiding a badly fitted front drivers side wing and sprayed or mabey put on with a shovel, engine was giving of oil fumes, engine was flat  interia wasnt cream as said it was beige, i can go on is attitude was bad from when we arrived think it was lucky i took my son and his mate, i walked away and be warned if you see on ebay again dont even think about it,dave ps i am looking for a good black cossie,

That's terrible news David. What a waste of your time.
Matt called it right for me.
I believe only two colours of leather were available. Raven and the Pumice fitted to that one.

I also bidded on it but baulked at that price.

If it goes back on Ebay as no doubt it will.  I will bear in mind what you have seen.
I might even go upto £205 this time. ;D

I have two Black Cossies already, unfortunately neither are for sale.

Photos could've been much better, at least get it outside so can get some decent pix. Mind you I liked the close-up of the dials working, 'least proves it runs ;D

Been a few towers only on eBay lately.

Can nothing be done about this cowboys description?   I know Ebay can be a risk, but if someone is lying about their description they should be hammered.   I dearly hope you put up some negative feedback, then lets see him sell his car!   Did it have the 12 spoke wheels?   I was too lazy to look at the pics!

I bought a facelift cossie off ebay and had the same experience, 450 mile round trip and came back with my money. Looked in autotrader that night and found the one I have in Bristol, which I bought the next day, I had driven past Bristol to see the ebay one.  Keep looking.

Having experienced both buying and selling  cars privately on ebay I would have to say buying a car there is or should be exactly the same as buying one anywhere else.. unless you are prepared to take the risk of believing the sellers description, you need to go and look at it first.

I appreciate distance may be a problem but if you're spending 1000 quid plus its surely worth it.

No one would think of buying a car privately off autotrader etc without going to see it first so why is ebay different?

I have bought cars on ebay without seeing them but only for low prices, a couple of hundred quid, knowing I would get my money back on scrap and parts if necessary.

I've had some worse than described and some loads better, its just your luck.

To be honest the guy selling the car above only says it drives fine and is probably the best one on ebay, theres every chance at the time it COULD have been.

So although I would (and) have been disappointed winning a car on ebay in poor condition that I hadnt been to see, it would be my own fault.
i would (and) have been equally pee'd off as a seller by someone winning the bidding without viewing the car then refusing to take it despite inviting people to come and view it first.

the law as a private seller says it must be as described eg if u sell a lawn mower that cuts grass and u get there and it dont cut grass u can get ur money back, but best is just state eg 1995 scorpio tax and mot, thats all you need. if u state more ur digging a hole for yourself it the things aint true or exact

He has sold a couple of other cars, so maybe he's a bit of a wheeler dealer

It really is quite shocking how some people expect to get away with their over the top descriptions !. Before i bought my estate i must of racked up at least 500 miles going to look at dogs. It was only by chance i found my car a few miles down the road. It was in a real sorry state ( ask Matt ) but with a bit of money & a whole lot of hard work it is now up to a fine condition :-). Sadly you will see my estate on E-Bay from the end of June :-( :-(  . 200 miles a week + £1.20 per litre is no longer viable :-(. Rest assured my description WILL be 100% accurate.

That's a shame!

(Selling it I mean not the description) ;D

Not to worry Mike. As soon as i get a more 'mundane' hack i'll be back on the hunt for another cossie. A saloon this time with the intention of dropping it on coil overs & fitting a 2.0ltr diff. With a little bit of a diet ( that will be the interior gutted then :-) :-) ) it will be my weekend second childhood car ;-)

So you're after a 24v saloon in place of the 24v estate Craig?

No m8...Already got one of each ;-). The green saloon will be going to Matt's neighbour at the end of the month. When i come back from my holiday in June im hoping to sell the 'Fridge' on to the highest bidder. The money raised from the sale will go towards something smaller ( for the wife ) & more economical ( for my wallet ). I will be then keeping an eye out for a cheap cossie saloon to have a play with & use it only as a weekend warrior...Well thats the plan anyway, although if anyone has a nice diesel they want to do a deal with im always open to suggestions :-)
