Well its your money but thats a VERY healthy price for a Scorpio, even one in perfect condition.

As someone who has bought MANY cars, if the owner admits to it needing £200 of work to it it will probably need a fair bit more! (The Voice of Experience)

If you were looking for that price for a car then why not spend £200 and make it perfect BEFORE you tried to sell it?? ;D

Cheers, for the advice.

The works needed/admitted to are a boot solenoid, only opens on the key(mine is the opposite and only opens on the remote) and suspension bush. There's a service history and bills for me to check.

It's a balancing act - I need another diesel estate asap for work and they are pretty rare with the Ultima or even Ghia-x spec.

I guess it all comes down to what it's worth to me.....

There's one other interested party to se it tomorrow, it's a 450 mile round trip for me so can't get there until Saturday if it's still for sale.

its the old saying mate, best the devil you know then the devil you dont, you know how your car was before the crash and whats needed to fit it after. Ive seen you post and you got away with it lightly, id say £200 would have yours back on the road quite easily

to pay nearly £1500 for a scorpio it would have to be mint, like Stuart ive had a lot of experience of "its not bad" or "it could do with" both of which have cost extra money then i'd like it to.

Hello Matt, I'm still waiting for the auto box to be tested - not sure if all the revving when the fluid drained away has damaged it. There's also damage to mounting brackets/broken fixings that would need to be repaired.

The problem is that I don't have a lot of time to get mobile again or skills to refit everything so I'd have to factor in labout costs(mates rates as I've known the garage boys since school) but it's still a factor.

The TD owner is now having second thoughts about selling so I'm hoping to get a look at 2.3 Ultima advertised by 5stud on here.

Thanks for your comments - I appreciate every point of view.

If there was someone who is more indecisive than me it's this seller  :)

He's just called to say he's accepted £950 from a buyer this afternoon but will give me first refusal as I contacted him first....

This sounds like a far more realistic price so I think I'll be off to Kent tomorrow with a grand in my back pocket. Barring it being not 'as described' I look forward to a nice cruise home.

As for my old one, I'm not sure whether to try to salvage what I know has been fitted in the last two years(shocks, steering rack, track rod ends, towbar plus wheels and tyres and rear bumper) then scrap it or offer it complete for spares.

Thanks to everyone who's posted here.

Steve.
You need to watch the geezer and tread warily,he can't ethically accept a price from someone then offer it to someone else,it's all mind games  :(

Hi Gozz, I didn't explain myself very well in my other post; he explained to the other chap that I had first refusal before agreeing a price with him. I see where you're coming from but having spoken to him four or five times over the phone I've no reason to doubt his intentions. It's all been a bit of a muddle with him changing his mind then switching back again.

I do appreciate the advice though.

Went up to Kent to see the car today and decided to buy.

Faults:
sunroof slides but doesn't tilt
boot only opens with key(probably soleniod that I can salvage from mine)
crack on rear light cluster
one number plate light not working
tyre deflated on front but report from garage to say tyre ok but wheel needs clean-up to seal properly, had similar problem myself last year. Will swap my wheels in anyway.
tape player jams, no worries as I don't play tapes.
auto dimming rear view mirror starting to degrade.
MOT advisory on pads and rear discs.
May need a minor bit of weld work where petrol tank straps fix behind the bumper

Good bits:
A/C, climate control, cruise, electric seats, heater all ok.
FSH and bills all pukka
Bodywork good for age, no rust around wheel arches, some minor scratches that a good t-cut/polish will sort.
Felt  ;D to be back behind the wheel of a real car after driving my daughter's Clio for two weeks.

I wanted to stay with Scorpios so I'm happy.

Collect early Saturday when Tax is done and booked in for a full service/check next week. Big trip to Yorkshire next week so fingers crossed..........

Hope it all turns out ok Steve. I'd have that mirror off asap. If it leaks the liquid will 'eat' the interior trim round the gear lever as it is corrosive. IF you do remove it remember you MUST pull it downwards with a sharp tug keeping it in line with the slope of the screen. DO NOT lever it towards the interior or the screen will break. The electrical connection is accessed by removing the interior light and locating it under the headlining. :)

Thanks Simmo, as it was un-taxed and un-insured I have to wait until the weekend before driving it (legally) home to Wales from Kent. Then I'll start the process of transferring what I need from my old one before offering the rest for parts/spares here and Ebay.

It's a shame my old one couldn't be repaired as there aren't too many auto-diesel-Ghia Estates left these days but needs must and I had to get back on the road asap.

Get a good look in there, they rust pretty good in that bit.

I had mine welded about a year ago to pass the MOT so I'm prepared come April for another dose. The rest of the faults are pretty minor and hopefully can be fixed by swapping directly from mine.

The radio looks different, can't remember the model numbers at present, do you know if they are interchangeable?

Simmo,

My radio is different to both of those....

It's identical to the bottom picture except that I have separate 'on/off' and 'volume' controls. Instead of the 'round' combined button. I'll get a pic and post if I can get to the car today.

Have you checked out the links highlighted on the page and also Radio Specifications on the left hand buttons?. I guess it is an earlier model and these are shown. ;)

The one on the left is mine, the one on the right is in the car I've bought. I'm hoping it's just a facia difference and the connections are the same. (I could do with some luck  ;D ).
