You say the pump has gone, are you getting a C1095 code?  If you are chances are it’s the controller, see here:

Hi, Abs light coming on after rolling road test might just be that the sensors need cleaning. If not and it is the abs controller, that is a fixable item done many times by members on this site including me. If the car is as nice as you say and you have already spent cash on it, these two possible fixes could cost you nothing but for a bit of your time.   Lee

I expect yours has the older style controller which is more difficult as it mounted under the valve block, I expect someone who’s done it will post something but possibly not for you as you’re “not very car minded”.
You could disconnect the pump motor and test it by connecting it directly to the battery but so far I’ve not heard of anyone with the motor circuit failure code actually having the motor fail.

I assume you’ve checked the fuses, one of them will give the 1095 code – fuse 46 or 47 in the battery side fuse box.

Repair for the abs controller is in How to do Things on page 2. Just to let you know, I was not car minded regarding the repair of the unit, never having done anything like that before,  but the alternative was a second hand one or a new one for around 300.00. It took me longer than others had taken the time to do it, but the satisfaction was enormous once the light went out on the rolling test :) A novice cpould do it in a couple of hours.

Dont listen to the bloke at work, thats just an urban legend ;D

For it to pass the MOT the ABS light MUST light up then go out after the three second self test.

If it doesnt light up or doesnt go out its a fail

Apart from that you'd have to cut it out as it's a soldered in LED.

The ABS won’t work if you don’t bolt the controller to the valve block.

You don’t have to bleed the brakes if you can get the box off without undoing the brake lines.
None of the hydraulic parts are disturbed when you unbolt the controller.
The mechanical parts are worked using magnetic fields – remove the controller from the replacement unit and you’ll see.

The traction control ones differ from the non-traction control ones so make sure you have the right one (the box is longer on the TC ones).

Excellent news - £140 to get through an MOT on a 16yr old car isn't too shabby :-)  Nice to see another Scorp kept on the road.
