Title: 1998 Scorpio Ultima Estate 2.3 Auto PRICE REDUCED!
Post by crash on Mar 28th, 2011, 12:49pm
Hi to one and all,

Sadly it has come to pass that I have to sell my trusty steed! Due my wife changing her car and I'm to inherit her old one.
I am curious as to what it is worth and hopefully someone can give me an idea or even show some interest. The car details are:-

1998 April R reg facelift model
105k miles
Full years MOT
State Blue
Estate
2.3 16v petrol
Automatic
Raven leather
2 owners since new, first the Ford dealer for a few months and then me at the end of 98.
Interior is in very good/excellent condition since I am the sole user and the rear seats have probably only been sat in a dozen times.
All alloys are in very good condition without scuffs/scrapes. All tyres (Continentals) are very good with the rears only about 4k miles wear.
It has been garage serviced yearly since new. I had the gearbox mesh filter replaced last year and the coil packs were changed for new units this year.
The minus points are that it has just got it's MOT but only after a little bit of welding on the undersides of the sills.
There is rusting of the rear wheel arches, rear offside mainly as it is very minor on nearside.
The paintwork is generally very good with the odd mark and scratch after 13 years.
The car runs and drives perfectly with absolutely no other faults or issues.

This is a reluctant sale but I cannot justify the cost of keeping a third car.
Any thoughts on what it's worth or offers even? Car is in West Sussex

I will try and get some pics up and running.

Cheers

Paul

I'd say £700-£800 at a guess as a top end IF you find a buyer that REALLY wants one (I wouldn't hesitate as I love Scorps but how many others are out there?

I'd be interested in seeing some close ups of the sills/arches.

What's your location?

Hi amigafan2003

Here are a couple of shots. As I mentioned the offside is the real culprit as the nearside is still pretty clear. £700-800 would keep me happy but as you say it is a top end price. NOW £499!
It resides in the Billingshurst area of West Sussex.

Hmm, I'd be tempted to ask a body shop if they'd do a simple quick repair on those arches before selling - you probably wouldn't increase the value of the car but it WOULD make it easier to sell.

Good idea, amigafan2003. Not ideal putting those pics on but I believe in being honest from the start. It is pretty superficial and wouldn't take much to rectify.
If, and it's a big IF, someone from here was interested in the car I don't want people to have to travel not knowing what to expect. I put my hands up to the little bit of rust safe in the knowledge that the rest of the car is perfectly sound and in very good order.

I know you replied to Tigerlit but have you rung? . That looks one nice car and a trip from Pompey to Billingshurst or a half way meet at Chichester might help you both.  ;)

Honesty IS the best policy.  If I didn't have a Scorpio already I'd but yours at a drop of a hat.  The arches really aren't a show stopper.

Hi Waglet,

PM back at you!

Hi Simmo,

No, I haven't and as you point out we're almost neighbours.  I'll have a try later.

Have you sold this car yet?

Title: Re: 1998 Scorpio Ultima Estate 2.3 Auto
Post by crash on Apr 19th, 2011, 2:09am
Hi dannynic,

not yet. I haven't really made any great effort. We are waiting on the other car so I'm not working on it too hard. I still drive the car to work, and feel real bad when I walk out and it sits there all clean knowing that I will be selling it.
If you, or anyone else, is interested I will sell early but at the moment I am in no huge rush.
If you want any more info then I can email it to you, or post it here.

Paul

Oh, and if I do happen to sell the car through this forum I will, of course, make a donation. Only fair!

I have sent you a PM. Did you get it? If not I'll send another.

Cheers

Danny,

I have just sent you another PM. I know I sent a reply but it doesn't show so I'll put it down to finger trouble. My fault but you should have it now.

Ok. This car is now up for sale, good and proper. It's an Ultima and I am sure that everyone who looks here will know what that means, but if not then please ask me. I really do want to sell it while it has some tax left on it. The MOT as mentioned has only just been done and is good until April 12.

I am looking for £750 or as close as I can get  ;D
NOW £499!

The car is here in West Sussex and if you are interested then please PM me.

Cheers

Paul

The price is now reduced to £499 for a quick sale, I hope.

I will be putting the car on eBay some time in the near future and will probably withdraw the car from here so as to avoid the complicated multiple selling venues that I know the eBay police hate.

Cheers

Paul

OK, I forgot to post something.
It has a sunroof BUT it has not been opened for a quite a few years ( Never really ever used it as the car has climate control). If I put my hand up onto the frame it does feel a bit rusty but, and most importantly it does not leak! For that reason I am loathe to open it in case it causes any problems.
I am fairly vigourous when I wash it and do not take any special care when hosing/jetting down around the sunroof but  there has never been any water ingress.

As before, posted in the name of honesty!  :)

The rubber does not seal the glass panel, any water seeping through, exits via drains in the corners of the inner frame.Don't worry about the eBay police, all they want is your money,I always think if bidding has not started you can take the car off without being unfair to would be buyers, they'll touch you for insertion fees anyway.

Thanks for that. Lokks like all the channels etc are clear then.

I hear what you say about eBay but I posted an item, not that long ago, and I mentioned in the text that I had the thing for sale elsewhere. Before I knew it they pulled it with a crappy warning about their selling rules.

Hopefully if I manage to sell the beast I won't have to resort to them.
Cheers

That is true, but last time they did get heavy and say that it was an official warning or suchlike. My listing was in contravention of rule whatever.I can't even remember what it was, something really trivial and low cost. Childs toy I think.

Someone must be interested in my car because I just cannot be bothered with listing it on eBay but will have to soon. Tax runs out at the end of June and I want to be able to demo it on the road legally.

Just that on the day I decide to stick it on ebay I manage to sell it. I was literally just about to hit the 'confirm' button with the listing all set up with pics etc when the phone rang. I didn't get what I wanted but it is at least sold, which saves me the headache of extending the insurance and taxing it again.
The really good news is that it will not be going banger racing.......yet!

Apparently the estates don't make the best banger racers, not as strong as the saloons (so the banger racers say and they should know!)  ;D

I just sold a rolling shell saloon to a banger racer today, big rear wheel drive Fords are getting scarce...

the day of the Scorpio as a popular banger racer is nearly with us!  :-/
