Is it really pricey? What would it cost to bring  a £400 car to similar condition? A proper paint job starts at £1500. These cars seem undervalued at present.

£2k seems a reasonable price to me for the condition/age/service history.

If I had the cash I'd be on a plane right now :-)

Has anybody ever imported a car from Guernsey? What do you have to do?
Tons of paperwork no doubt. I believe loopholes were closed to stop this route being used as a back door way in to the mainland, so no doubt it is a protracted affair.
Just interested......if I get another bloomin car me life won't be worth living...

Blimey.
What's yours like then, is it super low miles or something? Colour?
This estate is the same colour as one of my saloons, not the best methinks, best colour is the dark aubergine imho.
3k's a bit much for such an old car, all things considered though, isn't it?
Maybe I'd pay that for a v low mileage dark aubergine estate with pumice interior. Please don't tell me that's what you have....!

nice one! You obviously have one of those lives where you are allowed time to clean the car.
Looks exceptional actually. Think I'd have kept it rather than get 3k in my hand too, so I think you did the right thing.
Have been looking for an estate for years, they never come up, do they. I've bought  two saloons in the meantime just because they were low mileage, so I now have two saloons, silver blue and the dark aubergine,, and my first Scorp, a tourmallard estate which was so useful. That is now dead, has had a mouse in the glovebox, but is retained as the heater matrix on it was replaced at the cost of about a grand a few years ago. I'm saving it for the spares. HID hates me for it....I have 12 cars here counting hers and the kids. Yes, I should seek help...I know.

I don't want to go off topic but I've just picked up some parts from a bloke in Derbyshire who has a turbo diesel estate mot'd to next May and he wants around £250. It's on the road and looks fairly tidy (it was dark though) He's had it on ebay with no interest. I can supply some details if anyone is interested? The car had had 4 Ford discs recently.
I've seen bonnietilers car and it's worth every penny.

Just to bring us back to the original topic, I've just returned from Guernsey. Didn't buy.
I was so disappointed, it looked so good, but I had failed to observe it is not an Ultima, so when I got there it had lower spec radio and heating, non memory seats, no headlamp washers and no reversing sensors. So for me, it was not the one. There was also a fair bit of corrosion underneath at the back, in fact the exhaust looked shot - never seen that before (thought they were stainless). Anyway, apart from that, the paintwork was nice, and it looked pretty good, as it does in the pics. The service book appeared to confirm the mileage, so they are out there...I've been looking for 3 years or more for an estate and not yet found one. If anyone does have a full spec 24V estate or knows of one please let me know if it's for sale.
The dealer in Guernsey turned out to be a decent bloke, and ran me in to town, pointing out a few points of interest on the way, and delivered me to a decent pub where I drowned my sorrows with a couple of pints of the local brew, Patois, made for us by Randall's brewery. I can report this is indeed a fine ale and should be sought out if you ever go to the charming island yourself. So all was not lost, but where the hell can I find me a 24V Scorp estate!!!

To be honest I would be a bit dubious about buying a car from Guernsey that's 'getting on' age wise.

There is no MOT over there and many faults could go unchecked during a cars lifetime.

Same logic applies to Jersey and the Isle of Man.

Yes, agreed. Think I did the right thing not going for it. Why do people who live on small restricted islands buy big cars?

They want them? http://livinginthepast-audioweb.co.uk/images/misc/th_shrug.gif

I've also noticed cars on islands tend to be rusty, it's the sea air doncha know. ;D
