Title: 1998 Cossie 24v Ultima Estate for sale
Post by ken m on Nov 29th, 2012, 2:58pm
With great sadness I'm having to sell a much loved companion. A 1998 Cosworth 24v Ultima Estate Automatic, Nouveau Red, which was in daily use up until last week. She's covered nearly 310,000 miles and has an approved multi-point injection LPG system fitted. She is MOT'd until June and a full service history (over 20 stamps in the book).

She was running perfectly until the top radiator hose burst and that seems to have upset the electrics. I renewed the pipe, emptied and renewed the coolant and the engine started and ran. After about 10 minutes the engine stopped. It starts when I turn the key but immediately stops again. The PCM had reported various fault codes which all point to a loom problem but I no longer have the time to sort it out.

If someone has the time I'm sure it could be sorted out. I had just fitted two brand new front tyres, the alternator has just been replaced and everything was working fine, even the aircon. And the heated front windscreen also works - it was replaced last year. She's pretty well loaded with all the Ultima kit.

If there's good home out there that can collect her I'm not looking for much, plus a donation to this site, which has been a God-send over the years. Drop me a line on the forum if you're interested. By the way, the car is in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, very close to junction 9 of the M5.

Regards

Ken

Ken, that sounds a real tragedy. Have you thought of simply putting the car in the garage leaving a fan heater going for a day or two and seeing if that dries things out?. It really does sound as if it is just damp in the loom and surely anything is worth a try? ???

Hi Simmo

Thanks for your email. She's in the garage at the moment, but the weather has been just so damp that drying anything out is difficult. I did drive her after I replaced the hose and all seemed to be ok. I thought the engine getting up to temperature would dry things out but it appears not. I'm going to have another look tomorrow.

Yes Gozz,

Saved from total destruction  :)

Ken is a real gentleman and he will be making a very generous donation to the forum.
I hope to spend some time over the festive period putting it back on the road where it belongs.

Many thanks to all for your offers and comments. I've made a donation that should help the site a long a bit. I'll be sad to see the car go, but happy knowing she'll be taken care of. Best wishes to all on the forum - and safe motoring. Hope you all have a good Christmas.

Ken
