Title: Scorpio 2.3 Ultima facelift
Post by QuentinG on Nov 26th, 2018, 9:56pm
Reluctantly, due to lack of time and space, I need to part with my Scorpio. Since I would prefer it to go to a good home I am starting by seeing if there is any interest in it on this forum.
It is a March 1998 Charcoal Green 2.3 Ultima facelift saloon. The MoT expires on 26 March 2019. It drives very well indeed and I have used it on a variety of short and medium length journeys. Things that often look tatty like the bumpers, general paintwork and interior are all smart. Some pictures are available at https://www.flickr.com/photos/118212148@N03/sets/72157700789740152.
It has one new and three very good tyres and a pair of new front mudflaps in their Ford bag. It will need attention to the outer and inner sills for the next MoT; I have both the outer sills and a pair of rear wheelarches. I have been told by a garage I trust who had it on the lift in my presence that everything else looks OK corrosion-wise underneath.
It has 106,000 miles recorded which ties up with the service book and a number of bills that came with the car. It seems to have been shown at Harewood House in 2010 and 2011, and one of the former owners appears to have been a member of the forum, when it was registered R33RBS.
These are hard to price based on the few available for comparison, but I think £1000 would be a fair sum, albeit considerably less than I paid. If there is any interest or more info required please reply to this post. The car is located 20 minutes away from Portsmouth.

You'd  be better off getting it patched and tidied up around the arches (they look bad but dont matter as outside the suspension mounting zone).
Have a good guy here in torbay, but obviously no good for you at 170 miles away, history seems clean but rust like that doesn't appear in a year, get it ground out and tidied up and you should get what you want for the car.

This would make the car a lot more saleable, then put it up on ebay as classified ad - this removes all the idiots and non payers from the matter, probably by the time you've done that you will decide to keep the car.

Beware of the banger boys who want to give you £200 for it and then spend £2500 on an engine for it to "race".

Sorry for delay in replying, not a good week. I agree re the classified advert, it gets rid of those who try a buy it now and then try to start 'dealing' or as you say the non-payers.

Torbay might not be so far out of the question actually, my uncle lives near Newton so there might be a way of combining it with a visit to him (which I'm planning anyway early next year) and either staying while its done or returning on the train.

I have now chased three times for my quote on the bodywork, and this is with a chap who looks after my everyday car and I've known for 50 years. Must be too busy. And this is the fifth outfit I have tried. I think I'll try the local Ford facebook group next.

Good luck with that, I use 2 locals and both are reliable, would get them to fix the one I have for sale but with a total of 6 in the "family" at least one has to go :o

If youre heading this way let me know would be great to meet up, and if your Scorp is up together other than the bits you mention you're doing well.

How did you get your pics on the net??  Would like to post a few

Roy, This link from How to do things (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=admin;action=display;num=1268569404) might help.

It seems that Quentin has simply created an album in Flickr and put up the Hyperlink to it rather than actually posting the pictures on the site. :)

That is what I did, created an album on my Flickr account and pasted the hyperlink. I wasn't sure how/whether I could post pictures on this site but knew how to do it on Flickr.

I've also had a message re. the quote I was waiting for, I need to call them on Monday. And someone has responded from the local Facebook Ford group but we haven't yet caught up with each other. Hopefully I can get at least one quote and have a think.
I need to do some research on Leaks now as I had a wet driver's footwell the other week. Initial guesses would be the sunroof or windscreen area.

Windscreen possibly or down the side and under the drivers fusebox, this clogs up with debris and dead leaves etc.
Clear around and under the box mre the drain at the front of the bulkhead is clean and the rubberflap is not holding debris back under the fusebox.

Glad others are helping you with the bodywork, can put you in touch with Graham here if needed, done a good job on ours.

Re the footwell. Check the heater matrix and also ensure the flap over the air con filters is in place and secured with the spring clips. :)

Also check the aircon drains:

After checking the one on the drivers side make sure it's not touching the metal EGR pipe that runs round the back of the engine as it can melt the rubber.

Thanks for the helpful advice, will follow up. Only noticed this on one occasion so far after leaving the car out in heavy rain - it has displaced my daily car from the garage most of the time.
Someone's coming round tomorrow night who's done Scorpio sills and arches before, so might have two quotes by this time tomorrow hopefully.

Got two quotes for the bodywork, one for £2,000 based on 30 hours labour and I would need to get the paint finished on top (they did not want the job) and another for £800 from a chap off the local Ford owners Facebook group who did another one a couple of years back. I've accepted the second quote so fingers crossed.

As I mentioned before some people dont want the job - hence the stupid price from one of them, and finish the paint :o :o :o ??  joker I'd say.

The other looks good if its inner and outer sills and wheelarches finished off and nicely done for you, then from what you say you have a nice car :)

Looks like you've decided it's the car for you and you're gonna keep it - once in a scorpio it's hard to get out, but who'd want to :( ?

Let us know how it all turns out good luck

Thanks for enquiring, after posting this I finally found someone who can (hopefully) do the sills and arches for a reasonable amount, and it's with them now. When it comes back the intention is to get it serviced and prepared for MoT, then I will reassess what to do.

Quenten, sorry if I "jumped the gun" and inferred to answer on your behalf, but as you're fixing it I assumed it was probably to run it.
