Title: ebay - the worst place to sell a car?
Post by Torbayboy on Jul 23rd, 2019, 12:03pm
Sold a couple of days ago, but guess what  :o
Back on again - how unusual - perhaps he'd like to chuck a couple of bumpers and £500 into the deal

Like the "The car has no MOT or Tax but should pass an MOT pretty easily with the bumpers and headlight repaired." what about the rest of the car, perhaps MOTs are different in Brum

Not uncommon for the winning bidder not to bother turning up to collect a car sold through ebay...my dog or kids bid on it, too far to collect, wife won't let me buy it, just got made redundant...and many, many more excuses.
I've sold 1 car through ebay and the winning bidder duly turned up with cash at the agreed time.
I've also bought 1 car through ebay - my current one - I wasn't the winning bidder though - got it as a 2nd chance offer from the seller as the winning bidder didn't want to come 300 miles to collect it & I was only 20 miles away.
No worse really than when you had to put an ad in the local paper or in Autotrader - people would ring up to arrange to come and look at your car but never turn up. Guess some things never really change.

I think Facebook Marketplace is widely regarded as the worst way to sell, ironically its where I bought mine from. Imagine gumtree but with dodgier listings, awful or no descriptions and useless photos. I was very hesitant at first but took a punt and it paid off, the seller told me that I was the only genuine buyer (i.e. not a banger racer) that bothered to show up. It wasn't advertised anywhere else so I guess a lot of the people looking for a scorpio would have gone straight to the 'usual' places and missed it.

No MoT, both bumpers need replacing, and standing for years, yet it's nearly as much as mine was. £700 maybe nearer the mark?

Take the 1 away from the front of the asking price!
