Post by michaelelise on Aug 28th, 2019, 7:32pm
Hi all,
I have just noticed a white cosworth on eBay P142 SVX. With a starting price of £1000 in Ely. Been laid up since 2016 80,000 miles in 2015 might be worth saving for someone. Item no 223640167429

Regards Michael

The car still belongs to the guy that was trying to sell it.   This is the only item he has tried to sell.    Like Roy I contacted the guy to get the spec' of the car, and the guy refused to give me the registration number.   I told him it was worth about £300.   The next day it was bidded-out.   I suspect it will be back on the site with someone saying how fantastic the car is after it's repairs to the sills etc, after having some 'filler-bodge-job' and some sob-story about not knowing how expensive it was on petrol or some such crap.   All the time it will be the same guy selling it, after putting-up the £1600 bid himself, so he can say he paid that amount for it some such months ago.   Easy scam.   Call me a cynic, but no person in their right mind would pay £1600 for a Scorpio that looks like that.   Mark my words, we'll see this Scorpio again, tarted-up.................Bodged, more like. ;)

WHALE Peter was right, same car just 10 miles away, no one buys it for £1600 then sells it again for bids, might be at £690 now but see who realises what and where it was, should buy mine least its honest!

More bulls*** from ebay then yet again Peter was correct, the white P reg has "been ended by the seller" obviously so say buying it for £1600 then only being bid up to around £1200 donesn't work.

More back door ebay, about time they gave up on listing cars too many "false starts"
::) ::) ::)

About time they put it back to how it was when you could see who was bidding - you had a chance of detecting shill bidding by looking at previous bid history etc - I've got people kicked off in the past, no chance now.

I virtually live on ebay due to business there, and as you say all this hiding of user id is really bad.
It will probably pop up again soonish maybe some engine grabber wants to put it in his reliant robin etc.

Said many times before "EBAYERS-DON'T you jest love 'em" makes brexit look simple.
:D

The car on this thread was an easy 'spot'.   Seen it plenty of times before, and dealt with people that do the trick.

I bought both 'Movvy' and my two Jaguar X300's from ebay, but all were bought in the old days when you could more easily spot the scam-artists.   I found out about my XK140 on Ebay whilst over in the USA, but I went to see it before purchase.

I don't think I'd be so keen on using Ebay now to purchase a car, but I do find plenty of spares for all my cars on Ebay, for that it's great.   I think anyone with a knowledge of the marque of car they use will spot a dud or bargain on Ebay.   But I really have no time for 'scammers'.

Back again on gumtree this time!!! Up to £10 grand now :o :o

Entertaining though, it's so say moved to Suffolk now, pictures are labelled  2006 which according to MOT history should have a mileage of less than 40000.

Watch this space...... perhaps the first retail cost Scorpio coming your way soon????

Over to you Peter ;)

Moved to £5995 overnight, sorry to have not put this thread up then!

Down to £3895 now 12/11/19

If ever there was a car to look VERY carefully at.   Advertised in November 2019 for £3895.   Why was the car MOT'd 6 months ahead of its required date?   I suspect the 'Tester' gave an off record friendly warning of something potentially serious, and would guess at the rear suspension or chassis!   Why would a Scorpio wear its tyres on the edge at the rear, on inner or outer?   I would say that a lot of the problems this car had were sorted before Nov 2019, however, the rear tyres were on the limit in December 2015 and I suspect this is a persistant problem that has returned despite the financial outlay, and the vendor needs to get rid of the car before it starts to cost even more for this problem.   I wonder if the car has ever had a heavy rear-end shunt, resulting in either a slight twist to the chassis or a poor mis-aligned repair.   Of course the vendor couldn't be seen to be punting the car off for £1500 or anything, (In my humble opinion top price for a car in this condition) because no-one would even look at it, suspecting exactly what they should!     At the very least I'd want to get it on a ramp and do a 'drop-test', if one couldn't do that, or doesn't know how to, then do a measurement between wheel-centres on each side, and refer to specifications.
